I Hate Jill Zarin Real Housewives of New Jersey May 24, 2010
Is it ok that I call this the “I Hate Jill Zarin” blog even though it is about New Jersey?
Before I get into the episode I wanted to talk a little about an incident on Twitter that happened last week relating to the New Jersey Housewives.
As you all know Jacqueline has a daughter named Ashley. Ashley is 18-years old and has a twitter account. Last week she posted a tweet that was, in my opinion, extremely out of line and completely unnecessary in regards to Danielle’s daughter, Christine.
I would rather not go into detail about what the tweet said, just trust that while it made Danielle look bad, it also was an embarrassment and potentially devastating to Christine. I do not believe Christine has a twitter account, so the good news is hopefully Christine never saw Ashley’s tweet and hopefully no one told her about it. (wishful thinking)
In any case, some people who saw Ashley’s post asked her to remove it. Some asked nicely and others were not so nice and told her she should be ashamed of herself and things like that. Still other’s tweeted Jacqueline to ask her to intervene and have Ashley remove the tweet.
What ensued was, to put it nicely, an argument on Twitter involving several people. Some people thought it was wrong to tweet Jacqueline since her daughter is 18 and can make her own decisions. A few thought it was wrong to ask Ashley to remove the tweet , arguing that she can post what she wants to post. Others were berating Ashley for posting it at all. Of course, with this many conflicting opinions of what Ashley did, people started to tweet at each other with their viewpoint and it got ugly as people began to attack each other personally and there was a lot of unnecessary hits below the belt, it got completely out of control.
In the end, Ashley did remove the tweet but she didn’t leave it at that, she posted a nasty tweet to anyone who asked her to remove it, basically saying she removed it but it was no one’s business and she can post what she wants. This, after many people thanked her for doing the right thing and telling her she was a class act for removing it. The aftermath left people who used to be friendly and used to enjoy each other’s tweets being blocked from each other on Twitter.
Ashley was, understandably irritated that people tweeted her mother. In the end, I hope that Ashley doesn’t do anything like this again. As I have said the kids on the shows should not be dragged into their parents mess’s on these shows. Christine did not deserve to be made a fool of on Twitter, she isn’t on Twitter and she is just a 15 year old kid and cannot control what her mother does, nor should she be harassed for it. While Ashley is only 3 years older than Christine, I would hope she would have a little empathy for Christine, but I saw no evidence of any empathy or regret from Ashley whatsoever!
I don’t want to be over-dramatic about the whole situation, but we’ve all seen this type of thing on the news and while it may be rare, we have seen kids do very desperate things as a result of being bullied on the internet.
So, this is part of the reason that this will be my last “official” blog about The Real Housewives of New Jersey. At least I do know I won’t be formally blogging every week about the show. This show, unlike any of the other Real Housewives franchises, has children front and center and I am not comfortable talking about them. It is difficult to discuss the episodes without mentioning the children. In addition to that, the season has started off very slow and I don’t want to commit to writing every week. I will blog when I find an episode particularly interesting or if I have something to say about things that went on that week. I will continue to do at least one maybe even two per week on the New York show through the reunion shows. I may even blog about other shows if they interest me so I hope you will all still visit often. If there are any shows that you all watch and are interested in discussing, please let me know. I’ve already gotten requests to blog about Big Brother and I do love that show, so I most likely will do BB. Any others that you all watch??? I thought about an “I Hate Patti Stanger” blog but that would mean having to watch her show…augh!
My friend, ImstillToni and I plan on collaborating on blogs, we’re working out the details but she is hysterical and I think we make a pretty good team, she loves the Jersey girls and will be blogging weekly so I hope you’ll visit her site as well. We may take turns, we may write them together, we may both write blogs on the same episode, but we definitely respect each other’s writing so if you haven’t read any of her blogs, I think you will really love them! I hope you will read both of our blogs. You can find her blogs at:
So last week I found it interesting that both Caroline and Dina included in their blogs on Bravotv.com that viewers should go and read Jacqueline’s blog. When I read that, my first thought was, how do both Dina and Caroline know what Jac’s blog says? Does she run it past them for approval before she is allowed to post it?
Every now and then I post my comments on the Bravo blogs, mostly as an experiment to see if they will actually approve them. This week I posted on all 6 of the blogs (including Alex’s guest blog) Half were posted:
Both Dina and Caroline posted in their blogs that we should read YOUR blog. I find that odd…did you have to get your blog approved by the sisters prior to posting it? How do they know what is in your blog?
Your ENTIRE blog is consumed with Danielle, so who is stalking whom?
Doesn’t Lexi’s family have to approve shooting in their salon? If you forbid it, why did they allow Danielle to film there? Are you angry with them???
Sorry but you have become the creepy cat lady!
I do like you and have respect for you. I would like to know why you never, ever gave Danielle a chance. You hated her from day one even before the book was revealed. Why? It seems to me that Danielle needs friends as she seems to have none, no family..it is no wonder she talks to her daughters as friends.
Where is your big heart when it comes to a woman in need?
Finally, why are you and Dina directing us to read Jacqueline’s blog? Do you pre-approve her blogs? How do you know what it says before she posts it?
I was listening to an interview on Real Fan’s Club the other night with Alex & Simon. When asked about the Bravo blogs they both expressed their frustration with them as well. Simon indicated he wasn’t sure exactly how they chose which comments to post but that the process is erratic. In Simon’s example he said it could be an unpaid intern logging into the blogs in the middle of the night to go in and approve them. Bravo doesn’t take the blogs all that seriously, in fact as we’ve seen, at times one person over at Bravo will approve a comment and then another person will go in and delete it.
Case in point, shortly after the RHONY episode aired where Bethenny had visited her sick/dying father, some heartless person posted something about how similar Bethenny is to her father, cold and unfeeling. This moron who posted it even admitted to never having heard of Bethenny’s father but proceeded to tell Bethenny that she was just like him. It was mean-spirited and below the belt, in my opinion yet some genius over at Bravo decided to approve the post. When I saw it, I tweeted how idiotic those people over at Bravo are for posting that and I directed my tweet to, BravoTV, BravoPR, BravoProducer and BravoAndy. Shortly after, the post was deleted. I doubt my tweet had anything to do with it being removed, hopefully someone over at Bravo is reviewing the web site and saw how inappropriate that post was and deleted it.
I have even seen Bravo sensor the housewives blogs themselves. Alexis Bellino from the OC was blogging about the “girls weekend” and defending her husband coming along. Alexis blogged that, after all, Vicki didn’t pay for the trip, so why should Vicki dictate who can and can’t go. That part of Alexis’ blog was gone shortly after Alexis posted her blog.
The Bravo blog comments are just as frustrating as ever, they so clearly pick and choose based on what they want people to think of each of these housewives. You can see who they like and who they don’t. They also seem to choose those with the poorest grammar and spelling, or those that make no sense. I actually saw one on Bethenny’s current blog telling her good luck with the pregnancy and upcoming birth……um how could they not know she already delivered the baby? It is not only in the blog above, but it was all over the news. Clearly Bravo doesn’t take the blogs seriously, Alex & Simon told us that they are not obligated to write blogs, there is nothing in the contract requiring blog writing. We also know that people at Bravo told Sonja not to read the comments, possibly they were trying to shield her in case she faced a lot of negativity. Maybe it is time for Bravo to take the blogs more seriously, it is their opportunity to listen to fans, what fans like, what fans dislike, it should be held as invaluable free focus group quality information that typically would cost them a fortune.
Speaking of Real Fan’s Club, I recommend joining if you’re a RH fan, it is free and you can find them at:
They have great info, interviews and chat during the RH shows.
One last thing before we get to the NJ Housewives…
Jennifer Gilbert, the newest possible housewife! The other day she was on Twitter and she couldn’t figure out how to respond to people. Then she sent me a direct message (private) and I wasn’t able to respond to it because she wasn’t following me. After I got her to follow me we had an hour long conversation in private DM’s on Twitter. She asked a lot of questions but in the end, still didn’t seem to “get it”. She doesn’t know how to respond to tweets in public, she only tweets to the general public or tweets in private direct messages. I walked her through doing one but she hasn’t done any since, so I don’t think she remembers what I taught her.
I even sent a private DM to Simon asking him if he or Alex would be willing to show Jen Twitter in person, as it is confusing in 140 character DM’s. Simon told me that Alex already spent a few hours showing Jen how to use Twitter. (apparently Andy needs to have a course for his employees)
In addition to the how to’s of Twitter, Jen asked me about what she can say, whether it is acceptable to swear and WHO she should Tweet to from Bravo. Of course I told her it always looks good if you communicate with Bethenny and Sonja is popular but I told her that she should talk to Jill and Kelly only in private if she can help it. I talked her through sending Bethenny a nice tweet about B’s new web site that Bethenny had just announced.
At the end, she asked if I would support her as the newbie on the show and at least give her a chance, maybe convince others to give her a chance. You may have noticed that I haven’t done that, I haven’t said anything bad about her (until now) but I haven’t been overly supportive either, I’ve basically said nothing….
Here’s my favorite part, after an hour of back and forth messages and struggling with step by step instructions (she was so dense I almost told her to just call me) she never once said “Thank you” or “Thanks” or “I appreciate your time”….nothing!
Sorry for the lengthy opening, now on to the episode..
Ok, so Teresa gives birth. Millions of women do it every day, many of us reading here have done it, Teresa did it for the fourth time and while she was a tad bit overdramatic, she put even more of that nasal voice of hers into her moaning and screaming….she had way too much make up on for giving birth, but what do I know, I wouldn’t put any make up on to give birth so maybe she had just the right amount? The doctor probably thought that one of the clowns from the circus was giving birth…Doc says, “where the hell is Teresa? Oh damn! It IS Teresa!” Later Teresa channels her inner Luann and asks, “how do I look?”
Almost immediately after the baby was born she asked if she could dress the baby up? Apparently Teresa also dresses the baby up as a clown minus the make- up.
Danielle takes her girls out to an uneventful dinner, other than Jillian inadvertently offends Christine, Danielle says, “Hey! Hey! We’re family and we support one another”.
Yet another restaurant and Danielle meets with a friend named Kathy. Kathy explains to Danielle that the diner’s owner has a baby who has cancer. They are requesting that Danielle attend an event to raise money for the baby’s treatment. Danielle learns that the benefit will take place at the Manzo family’s Brownstone. Quite the shock! Danielle admits it will be awkward but immediately agrees to attend and to help raise money for the baby.
Dana calls a “Family Meeting” to discuss the advice given to her by Zen Jen. Dina intends to meet with Danielle! (cue dramatic music) Really? A tad overdramatic, right? Predictably Jacqueline says nothing and Caroline tells Dina she feels it is a bad idea. I must agree, what good could come of this meeting? Did I hear these New Jersey ladies saying that the other franchises’ create drama and only the Jersey girls are “real”? Seriously?
Danielle meets with the stereotypical shady character named, Danny. Danny, admittedly an ex-con who did time for racketeering. If the New Jersey ladies want to distance themselves from organized crime, this is not the way to do it!
This link has information about Danielle’s “Friend” Danny,, who she meets with during the episode. Danny. Warning, Spoiler Alert, it does have information about a future episode but please note it also speculates on some issues…
Caroline’s son Christopher decides to move forward with the brilliant idea of combining a car was with a strip club. During this episode, Chris Manzo visits two examples of successful businesses for one day to learn the in’s and out’s of car wash and a strip club. Sounds like plenty of time to get a decent education. Chris correctly informs his brother Albie that there is a lot more to strip club than girls on a stage. Is this guy a genius or what? Caroline says she wants her son to run a “respectable” business because there are strip “joints” and strip “clubs”. I think that maybe the car wash portion of the club is what will make it respectable. This entire storyline is so contrived and quite frankly, dull.
Jacqueline’s input into this episode consisted of staring at Dina and Caroline during the “family meeting” and her meeting with her daughter, Ashley. Ashley visited her mom to apologize, for what? I have no idea. Jacqueline suggests that Ashley meet with a Life Coach. I must say I agree with Ashley, what is the point? Ashley is like tens of thousands of 18 year old college students and isn’t quite sure what she wants to do in life yet. To her credit, she has a plan and that plan includes an education, Jacqueline should be thrilled. So she Ashley has a few different ideas of what she wants to do in life, this isn’t a tragedy, she has time to make decisions.
Jacqueline is just now learning what is in her husband’s safe? No one will ever convince me that scene wasn’t set up!
I don’t think I’m alone here in thinking that the Jersey girls, try as they might, do not support a weekly television show. Last season was centered around “the book” but how long can this show go on with four ladies trying to avoid one lady? None of them even have an interesting career to show us. Bravo followed these ladies around for 6-8 months, and this is the best that they could come up with? Disappointing!
I will see you all on Thursday night / Friday morning with my, much more exciting, blog about the New York Housewives! Just two more episodes left, then the reunion. Right now I do plan to blog for Bethenny’s Getting Married! We will see how it goes…
Reminder, for anyone who is or will be in the Chicago area on June 5, Simon and Alex will be coming into town to do a book signing. Per Simon’s request, I have organized a cocktail / dinner reception for them after their book signing at Cagney’s just a short walk from Barnes & Noble where they are holding their book signing. This is just two days after the final episode airs and 4 days before the reunion airs! Contact me for details or just join us!!!
