I Hate Jill Zarin Real Housewives of Atlanta Preview Nov 1, 2010
Why would a network take their top rated series mid season
and move them to a different night? Top Networks will do that occasionally if they’re trying to find an audience for a failing show and we know that typically Thursday nights have been reserved as
“Housewives Night” over at Bravo. Now that The Real Housewives of DC has concluded it may have made some sense to put the Atlanta Housewives in the 10pm Thursday night slot. Networks put some of their highest rated shows on Thursdays because that’s where the ad dollars are the biggest.
Somewhere back in the 1950’s Neilson told the networks that
consumers watched Thursday night commercials then got paid on Friday’s and spent all their money on the products they saw on Thursday. All the highest rated shows were firmly planted on Thursday nights. Following suit, Bravo put The Real Housewives on Thursday nights and only because they were running two series at the same time did they utilize their Monday nights for a Housewives series.
If Bravo announced that they were moving The Real Housewives
of Atlanta to Thursday, it would have made some sense but they’re moving RHOA to Sunday, a day that historically Bravo used to re-run old NBC shows like Law and Order or House. We’ve never seen any original programming on Sunday nights on Bravo. The competition is too much for our little young Bravo. I have to assume that the audience for Real Housewives series and shows like Desperate Housewives and Brothers and Sisters is a similar demographic. Does Bravo think they’ve got a fighting chance against ABC’s Sunday lineup? Are they gambling that people will miss their Desperate to watch The Real?
With so many people owning DVR’s and TiVo it is probably not
a really big deal for the viewer, and let’s face it, Bravo re-runs everything so many times that if you miss the original run you will have plenty of other opportunities to catch a re-run but why are they doing this?
Some people on Twitter are speculating that they’re trying to sabotage their number one show:
ATL: Secretly think network wants to kill this show. These new HW’s are not as crazy as others that wanted in.
More tweets from the same source who claims to be a Bravo Insider:
ATL: We did test shoot at socialite’s house that she paid 13 mil for!
Also, had pet leopard. Really fun jet setter with real money. Aww well
ATL: Disappointed they did not show full freak out with Ms.New Nose and her son. He screamed, “So what! I did it, so what!” hilarious.
ATL: Check me boo will find love this season! At least, briefly. 😉 She also will face legal issues about her line (always sign the checks).
ATL: Of course, new nose and lawyer have major run in where nose calls her a “liar, bitch, no good tramp, and boring.” Last one is worst…
Again, please note that this person “claims” to be a Bravo insider.
The Bravo blogs are posted for the Atlanta ladies and Kim wanted to clear something up, <giggle>
TO CLEAR SOMETHING UP: I did NOT say I was, “With Big
Poppa,” I said, “Big Poppa is back in my life,” meaning we reconnected once again as friends. We weren’t speaking for months prior to that, and I really missed our friendship.
Thanks for clearing that up Kim, I guess you slept in his guest bedroom when you and your daughters spent the weekend at his house swimming and lounging by the pool. Remember, they’re JUST friends!
Kim continues to insist that she paid Kandi for her part in Tardy For The Party and while Kandi admits that she received a small dollar amount, she did not get what a typical writer/producer/auto-tune specialist would get for a single that raked in over $100,000. Kandi explains:
Now on to the money part. I hardly got anything from “Tardy For The Party.” That is the truth. I am not mad about it. I really blame myself, because I didn’t handle my business correctly. The back story is that when we first did the song, I had Vito (the producer that helped me with the music) talk to Kim about how we would get paid. I didn’t want to have that discussion with her because sometimes doing business can make a friendship uncomfortable. We had already signed a publishing split sheet that split the publishing (writer’s royalty) equally between myself, Vito, her daughter, and Ed (the guy who wrote the country version). I totally wrote the version that everyone knows and is for sale all
by myself, but since I took the title “Tardy For The Party” from the
country version Kim originally had, I wanted to be fair and give Kim’s daughter and Ed something. Okay, I hope y’all are following me.
When Vito talked to Kim the agreement was supposed to be
that we were just going to split all the royalties from the song (not just the publishing royalties) equally. Mind you I wrote it, pulled in the people to get the music done, gave her free studio time, produced her vocals, etc. with no upfront fee. So I thought, “Cool, we can split the royalties equally, and it’s all good.” I didn’t know if the song was going to make money or not, so I definitely didn’t want to charge her all this money upfront not knowing if she would make any. As a friend I wouldn’t do that. If it’s just business
I don’t care, but it wasn’t just business.
So when the money first came in, Kim gave me a check of a third of the money she had received at that point. Everything was cool, but then she came back to me a week later saying she was all upset because her attorney said she shouldn’t have to pay me on the overall royalties, and that she should just pay me on part of the publishing royalties. She asked me for her money back. It kind of came off like she felt I was taking advantage of her. So it irritated me. Mind you, even though Kim and Vito verbally agreed to splitting all royalties, we never put that in writing. So I just gave her the money back. She gave me a much smaller check that her lawyer said I should receive, and I never got another check. Period. Even though the song has gained more royalties since then, and another dance version was released that I never received a publishing check from.
As a writer you’re supposed to get paid evertyime that song is played on radio and TV. Since I’m on this show, I allowed Real
Housewives of Atlanta to play the song for free so that she could fully benefit off of the song getting played multiple times on our show. She doesn’t have a major label pushing her song to radio, so she doesn’t get the same airplay an artist that is on a major label gets. That’s why I said, “If I would have given this song to another artist, I could have made way more money.” Meaning I would have gotten royalties off of record sales, licensing fees from TV, radio airplay royalties, and I would have charged them a fee upfront. But it’s ok, I am not mad. I will write many more songs that I can do that on. Kim just went along with what her lawyer said, which is what you should do in most cases. I should’ve put what our agreement was in writing from the beginning so there
wouldn’t be any confusion. This situation in no way makes me have ill feelings towards Kim. The money won’t make or break our bond. I just know going forward we have to treat business as business and friendship as friendship.
I think Kandi may just be the most reasonable of all the Housewives, I doubt too many others would have handled it this way but I have to also give her kudos for explaining it in detail to fans. Kim just keeps saying that she paid Kandi and based on Kandi’s explanation, she did give her “some” money but not nearly what she should have given her. Kim really should have ensured that Kandi got her fair share, we all know that song wouldn’t have been recorded at all without Kandi. As Kandi said, there was nothing in writing and she realizes it was her own fault for not putting anything in writing but Kim should have done the right thing regardless of what her attorney recommended.
Phaedra Parks blog is a waste of space, she goes on about empowering women and her education and even lists women in
history who have made a name for themselves with hard work and tenacity. Thanks for the history lesson Phaedra, how about explaining your insane baby shower? Your comments about turning away gift – bearing guests if they’re late for your baby shower? I really wanted to see Kim turned away, just snatch that gift and send her on her way. Now that would have made for outstanding television!
Phaedra likes to preach her accomplishments and her well-bred southern upbringing, let’s just see the results, you can say it all day long but actions speak louder than words. Phaedra is cut from the same cloth as Kelly Bensimon who tells us she’s authentic, real and charitable. No evidence of that to date.
Reports have surfaced that Sheree’s Doctor friend is not really a doctor, did anyone really ever think that he was a doctor? Sheree just barely mentions this guy in last week’s blog calling him simply her “blind date” but nothing more. She most likely already
knew the truth about him before the first episode aired and stopped seeing him months ago.
Sheree is great about tweeting during the episode, she answers a lot of fan tweets and has really become more interesting to people this season. She was a caricature last season with all of her loving herself and self-indulgent parties for herself, I have a feeling she watched herself last season and did not like what she saw. She certainly has changed, we’ll still have to monitor her behavior closely.
I really like Cynthia Bailey, she has a great sense of humor and isn’t afraid to say what she thinks. There is no new-girl syndrome here, her blog of the top 20 hysterical moments of the episode were priceless! As we know she is going to accept her man’s proposal soon and begin to plan her wedding, hopefully that means more on screen time for this beautiful lady.
NeNe has not posted a blog for last week’s episode as of now, I imagine she’s way too busy filming The Celebrity Apprentice to bother with her blog. I don’t think we’ll see too many more blogs from NeNe this season. She did mention that the previous week’s
episode was boring for her, she even fell asleep watching it, do you suppose it was because she only had a few short scenes in that one?
There are two previews posted on Bravotv.com for tonight’s episode, you can view them here:
The first one called “Things are not adding up” is hysterical, the comments about Phaedra’s pregnancy and due date are not to be missed!
Bravo is also promoting Kandi’s new album drop so she must be giving up some of the proceeds to the network. Poor Kandi, she just can’t catch a break!
Andy Cohen will be feeding his ego with an episode of Watch What Happens Live tonight featuring Kandi Burress.
They’ve also posted more time with Lisa and Nate from last week’s episode:
Until Next Time….
