Bethenny Ever After

There is a baby crying in Tribeca New York but not for very long.  Bethenny rushes into the baby’s nursery where her baby nurse, Gina still fast asleep in the bed next to little Bryn’s crib doesn’t move.  Bethenny picks up her baby and prepares her for a nice walk with mommy and their dog Cookie.  Gina sleeps on.

Men with super high tech cameras follow Bethenny as she’s trying to have a nice quiet time with her baby walking the streets of New York, many tell Bethenny that is the price that she pays for fame and fortune but she hides behind a rather large man who is happy to assist the lady in distress.  Bethenny simply doesn’t want her daughter’s photo splashed across the tabloid magazines.

Bethenny returns home to find Gina still snoozing away, as Bryn goes down for a nap next to her baby nurse.

Last week’s show focused a bit on Bethenny’s assistant Julie, tonight we learned quite a bit more about Gina, the baby nurse.  Bethenny admits that Gina has been with them longer than probably necessary but also admits that Gina has become part of the family and they all love Gina!

When Gina arrives at Bethenny’s Redbook photo shoot with baby Bryn, Bethenny can immediately tell that there is something wrong.  Bethenny notes that “Gina looks like she was punched in the gut”.  It turns out Gina’s estranged husband has ceased all of her assets in Trinidad including a piece of property that Gina valued at $100k.  Clearly Bethenny is torn between wanting to help and knowing that she can’t make any promises as she has no pull in Trinidad.  Bethenny does the next best thing, she gets Gina a red velvet birthday cake and they all celebrate Gina’s birthday.

Bethenny confronts her intern/assistant Max who was a focus last season but is apparently ineffective and while Bethenny was tough on him, it was unclear at the end of the conversation whether or not he was actually fired.  Bethenny told him he was late, lazy and a complainer yet said, “see you later” as he walked out the door.  I think that’s the last we’ll see of Max.

The good news is Bethenny has teamed up with her foodie friend Nick who knows New York food like the back of his hand.  They meet and discuss him writing a blog for her web site.  The blog title, “Nick’s Creepy Crawl” seemed to hurt his feelings so Bethenny quickly changed it to “Nick’s Culinary Crawl”.

Bethenny admitted to having limitations when it comes to business and while she can market her products, when the product isn’t available, her efforts are worthless.  She needs her husband Jason to help her in certain aspects of her business.

Talking to her therapist, Bethenny recognizes that there could be negatives to asking Jason to become part of her empire, if she begins to treat him like an employee, it could be a disaster.

Jason is willing to help but wants to immediately set boundries and manage Bethenny’s expectations.  The couple agree to give it a try and plan to visit the bottling plant where Bethenny’s Skinnygirl Margaritas are produced and bottled.  Jason tells Bethenny that forecast numbers put her Skinnygirl Margarita sales at one million in 2011.  Bethenny smiles.

Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen
Guests: Gretchen Rossi and Slade Smiley

Right off the bat Andy has to reprimand this couple for trying to open the show with smooches.  Andy’s afraid people will change the channel, he’s right to be concerned.

Andy begins by asking Gretchen about any plastic surgery or injectibles Gretchen may have had, she jokes that she’s had it all, her forehead, eyes, cheek implants, chin implant and even teeth.  Andy doesn’t get the joke right away as he’s already searching through his little blue cards for the next question.  He actually has to stop and ask, “Really?  Have you had your teeth done?”  Sigh…comeon Andy get it together!
The couple both agree that they adore Vicki’s daughter Briana, Gretchen says she likes Vicki too and then adds a “but” as she explains Vicki’s constant criticism of Gretchen’s business and continues to say she’s the only one who works.

Gretchen cleared up a few things, Tamra’s complaint that Alexis showed up for their work out in complete make up was ridiculous as Gretchen pointed out that Tamra also had a face full of makeup including false eyelashes.  Andy didn’t care.

Gretchen also pointed out that as Tamra tried to convince Alexis that her husband Jim was very much like Simon Barney, Alexis never agreed with that at all.  Andy seemed to think Alexis agreed with that a bit.
Tonight’s poll question asked viewers to choose Orange County’s hottest housewife, let’s see if Tamra’s statement holds true for viewers.
Andy’s three obsessions tonight:

1.  Alexis and new housewife Peggy had a Play date   The competition was obvious as each mother rattled off their young children’s accomplishments.  From potty training to how well they articulate, these two women obviously each think they have the smartest children.  Nothing unusual there but Andy did point out the unusual names – Milania/MacKenna/Capri/London  poor James.

2.  Andy next pointed out the obvious, Vicki is extremely unprofessional and inappropriate with her employees.  In hotel rooms in their underwear and drinking excessively, touching and flirting.  Andy joked that he would send Vicki a memo telling her she was inappropriate as soon as his assistant was finished alphabetizing his Spanks Magazines.  Andy needs a new writer.

3.  Finally Andy played last week‘s video of Tamra‘s view on her feud with Gretchen.  Tamra feels that Gretchen owes her an apology, after all she only told the truth.  According to Gretchen, Tamra doesn’t kow anything that is going on, Tamra doesn’t know the truth, its laughable. Gretchen doesn’t want to talk about it anymore.  That’s great because we don’t want to hear about it anymore either!

Dozens of tweets were represented by a drunk caller who asked Slade about his child support woes.  Slade explained that he does pay child support, he has one child who is extremely ill and in fact will be going in for surgery later this month.  Slade said that he petitioned the court to reduce his child support so that he could focus his financial support on his ill child.  People have been asking this question for months and it seems as though Slade has been rehearsing his response for just as long.

Slade did have a point, he would be in jail if he failed to pay his child support, however, if Slade was paying only a portion of his child support and owed a substantial amount of back support, I’m not sure that they would put him in jail, making it impossible for him to earn money to pay the balance.  It wouldn’t make a lot of sense to cut him off from his income and ability to pay, would it?

Another popular question, does Slade have a job?  Gretchen stupidly says once again that his job is to service her in the bedroom.  OMG Gretchen, Stop!  Slade talks about helping Gretchen with her business’s as well as claiming to have a consulting company and rattling off a few companies that he’s been working with.  I don’t believe a word of it.
A viewer asked if the couple had any plans to marry, they simply said, “Watch what happens” but as we all know through rumors, Slade will propose to Gretchen on the final episode of the show at the season end party.

Andy then threatened viewers with Gretchen’s new song, Revelation.  Playing about 15 seconds of the song it is very different from her first ballad that she released at the end of last season.

Then Andy threw out the ultimate insult, saying that the song was prepared using “Autotune” to which Gretchen and Slade both violently denied.  In Gretchen’s defense, her song last year did prove she has a nice voice.  I think the sound Andy was hearing was the disco type effects added to the song to give it a dance sound.  Autotune corrects pitch and tune in a song and sounds very similar to what they’ve done to Gretchen’s new song.

Andy reads a few tweets that were sent to him during the live show, Tamra wants to know why Slade is in New York while his son is having surgery in a week.  Good question Tamra, those flights from New York to Los Angeles are taking almost a week these days.  What?  Of course Slade and Gretchen interject that Slade will be back home well before the child has surgery.  Is that the best you’ve got Tamra?

Jill Zarin tweeted several times to Andy Cohen, once threatening to call into the show but noted that the last time she called, they didn’t put her through on the air.  As many people tweeted to Jill how ridiculous she was trying to get on the air, she tweeted to viewers not to be angry with Andy for not putting her call through, as it wasn’t Andy who did that.  Hysterically funny Jill Zarin, of course it was Andy’s decision, you don’t think he decides who is put on the air?  Think again!

Jill then tweeted that Gretchen looked lovely and she wanted to know where to get Gretchen’s make up.  Jill knew that Andy would allow that innocent tweet to get on the air and it also allows his guest to plug her cosmetics.  Five tweets later, I’m sure Jill was happy that her name got on air.

A few other topics covered, Gretchen did not have a boob job, she claims that Kelly Ripa turned her on to the $50 Victoria Secret boob job (bra).  The couple ran into Slade’s ex and first housewife Jo at a LA Laker’s game recently and described how Jo walked past them several times.  The couple noted that they didn’t know if they would sign a pre-nuptial agreement but Gretchen says they most likely would as her parents want her to sign one.

Another lame game that only included Slade responding to nasty comments from women of Orange County.  Slade didn’t take it seriously, he was annoyingly condescending, and laughed off every comment.  “Why do you keep banging housewives?”  Slade responds, “they’re good in bed”.  “Slade thrives on drama”, Slade says, “yes, I am very dramatic”.  “Slade is an opportunist, he doesn’t work, doesn’t pay child support, he’s a bad dad and he whores out Gretchen”.  Slade, “yes, yes its all true”.  sigh…stupid game!  Did the WWHL crew really think that Slade would respond seriously to each of these accusations?

Andy’s 3 Wishes:

1.  Help Japan victims through the American Red Cross
2.  Just when we thought it was over…Ben Weiner is 14 Happy Birthday
3.  Hitler’s girlfriend Ava Brawn dressed as Al Jolson?  Random!

Poll Results – Orange County’s Hottest Housewife Gretchen wins with 40% Tamra comes in second with 30% Alexis is third with 21%

Inside the Actor’s Studio by Quincy IL

This week the honored actor was a graduate of the Master’s Class in Acting at Pace University.  His name is Bradley Cooper and he graduated in 2000.  He is of Irish and Italian heritage. His parents and several friends are in the audience.  James Lipton was the moderator and the producer of this show/class.

Bradley’s first experience with acting was in the 4th grade.  He went on the graduate from Georgetown University with honors in English.  James Lipton gave him the audition for the school himself.  They discussed the experience that every member of that audience had had in order to be admitted.

Teachers from the grad school were introduced and honored by the audience and by Bradley Cooper.  He interacts with several of them routinely in preparation for his work in major movies.

James Lipton and Bradley introduce Renee Zellweger  (also his girlfriend) who also has been on the stage of this grad school class.
Bradley Cooper was in “Sex and the City” playing the role of Jake, the downtown smoker.  Instead of attending his graduation he was filming “One Hot American Summer.” He played, Will Tipton in Alias with Jennifer Garner as his costar.   He acted with Julia Roberts and Paul Rudd in “Three Days of Rain.” They described Bradley role in “Hangover” which won a Golden Globe for Best Comedy.  In that role, he also won the MTV award for best comedy performance.   He was in a movie called, “Limitless.”  In this movie, he takes a drug that enhances his mental abilities.   He worked with Robert DeNiro, his idol.   He is currently working on “Hangover 2.”

When discussing his acting he discussed his desire to find inspiration through research and authenticity.  He tries to keep sharp and sometimes he feels scared that he will fail.  He discussed the process of learning to memorize dialogue and acting as an art.  He has a desire to get better and to learn.  His joy is as real as it was when he was in school.  The class gave him a standing ovation for his accomplishment and what he has done for the school in return.

Great blog! Bethenny Ever After is a breath of fresh air in the middle of Real Housewives crap. Where RHOOC is a cesspool of unlikable characters Bethenny’s show has people that you want to get to know from Shawn to Nick. Don’t get me started on Jason. He is just adorable, affable and so funny. He is a perfect partner for Bethenny. Let’s not forget Bethenny in all this. She is so fun to watch and she is a natural with baby Bryn. So much love on this show.

  2. MickeyMouth says:

“it was unclear at the end of the conversation whether or not he was actually fired” That’s exactly what I thought. That was the most ambiguous firing I have ever seen.

    • quincyil says:

For a great business woman, that was a messy firing. To do it on camera was wrong too. Maybe, she wanted to allow him the chance to speak his piece about the tasks he was asked to accomplish. Putting female underpants in a suitcase is not something a male employee should be asked to do on camera or off.

      • LynnNChicago says:

I think that Max agreed to do it on camera for a few reasons, so that he could get his side in and so that he could get another appearance on screen. I have to disagree, if you’re Bethenny’s assistant, part of that job is packing her suitcase for her trips, doesn’t matter if you’re male or female, its in the job description.

        • quincyil says:

Lynn, on this board is a link to Max’s side of the story. In one of the last paragraphs, he describes how uncomfortable he felt in several instances and the one he noted was picking out a thong on film with Bethenny.

I actually have been attended training on how to deal with employees. I doubt that her contract with him stated that he would be placed in that situation. If it did, he would not have addressed it as he did in his facebook explanation. I think she deliberately did that to him to have people laugh at the situation where he was embarrassed. She could easily have thrown underwear in the suitcase herself and spared him that.

Jason and Bethenny discuss intimate things on camera all of the time. Then , she has an issue about Max requesting a condom? Bethenny implied it was at a party. Max, in his facebook blog, says it was at a bar and he apologized, but Bethenny’s description was not correct.

I think there are differences in “male and female” in a job like the one Bethenny offered to Max. Males and females have different comfort zones and an employer or a supervisior has to be aware of the feelings of her employees.

Bethenny is Bethenny, but Max states that he had never heard of her before and he was hungry for work. He is not happy with the way she treated him and portrayed him as lazy.

I wonder if both Bethenny and Max realized that they were not a good mix fairly quickly, but stayed in the work relationship because of the reality show and filming.

          • Olivia says:

Max was hired because he was “cute”. I am sure they thought he would bring in the same demographic that the Manzo brothers captured.

It was clear early on that Max was much too inexperienced to deal with her business ventures. Fresh out of school he had no idea of what was expected of him and to be honest, I have no idea what his duties would involve outside of being another person for Bethenny to play off.

The show went on to success without Max and apparently he was not called upon to do much as she thanked him from “coming over”. This kind of underscored that perhaps Max was not on a regular schedule.

It may be that many viewers somehow thought she should have hired Nick in the first place and he is the replacement although again, I am not certain what the appeal is here. It doesn’t appear that he has been hired to assist Julie.

          • LynnNChicago says:

I see what you’re saying and I’ve attended a lot of HR classes as well, this is not a typical employee/employer situation, that said, I would bet that packing a suitcase is a typical job responsibility for an assistant. I hope to find out someday LOL

The only reason packing Bethenny’s suitcase with underwear was a big deal is because Max made it a big deal, had he just done it without brining up the fact that he had to handle her panties, it wouldn’t have even made it on screen. Max made it a big deal so he could get more screen time. Bethenny didn’t ask him to do anything that far out of the ordinary. I’m sure he’s packed a suitcase before. He’s gone shopping before, he may not have put together a crib but they showed it was simply putting four legs on a base. He sold himself as a guy who would do ANYTHING, a guy who is a self-starter and needed very little direction. He claims he’d never heard of Bethenny, but I would bet after being on camera at a job interview he did a few google searches when he got home before he was offered the job.

I disagree with the male/female statement, the job is what it is and Max was expected to step up and do whatever was required of him (within reason) and I don’t think he was asked to do anything unreasonable. I think he is lazy and just wanted to be on TV.

A guy who feels comfortable asking his employer’s husband for a condom should complain about packing a suitcase? He doesn’t get to have it both ways.

            • quincyil says:

Bethenny made a big deal about the gay and straight thing when hiring. That was for the camera, but I don’t think someone hiring an assistant can do that. She made a statement that Max was 3 1/2 ft tall last night. That is great comedy, but I’m sure that is hurtful to Max.

              Bethenny said, “Nick’s Creepy Crawl.”
He noticed it and she tried to repair it. It’s great TV, but bad for a potential employer to say.

Is Bethenny the business woman that she claims to be? She seems to think rolling heads and being angry is the answer to production and shipping issues. I hope it all for the TV show, but I suspect it’s really Bethenny.

              • DJ Loops Fruit says:

she didnt do the gay straight thing for anyone but her hubby who would rather she hire someone gay as he didnt want some young straight guy being around a half naked bethenny

              • floridagirl88 says:

She’s inexperienced and that NY snark is out of place as an employer. I am starting to get weary of Bethenny, even as much as I like her.

            • Noreen says:

Not to mention asking another guy to put lotion on your back. I find it hard to believe that Max was embarrased about anything. He didn’t even seem embarrassed about getting fired.

              • Waslurking says:

If Max was so freaked out about the thongs why was he picking one out at a time for show? Put your big boy pants on…… grab a handful of cloth and toss ’em in the suitcase for crying out loud!!

            • twoile says:

@Lynn ITA, Max did sell himself as one who anticipates needs prior to thier being obvious….he certainly could Not do anything close 2 that.Ex ist outing at the Hadasa mtg he never notified the limo @ departure & Beth was left out in the cold waiting after telling him to call! B forgave that situation (i would have been much more aware of Maxes need 4 real trng at that point). The job description certainly couldn’t have covered every contingency, Fed employment law more clearly covers “employers of 15 or more”….personal/professional assistant does not appear to have any organization . that Nannys seem 2 have, either formal or informal so it is everyone to their own devices employer/employee& State law. Max was not best suited 2 the needs of the position, which does not mean he wouldn’t do well in an introductory situation that is well structured b/c he is not a self starter in any sense.

          • 2Stupid says:

You make valid points for someone working in a more traditional work environment. However, when you work as someone’s personal asst, I think the lines are not so black and white and there is a lot of gray area. I doubt very seriously Max had any contract with Bethenny, maybe the production company. Bottom line Max is known among Bethenny’s viewers and he would not had he not done the show. I bet you money he will decide to go into acting or be on another reality show. Julie complained last year that Max really wasn’t helping with the work load. Julie is really the person I fell for, because I doubt she is really being compensated for her worth. If she was sweating her rent, she is still a struggling single girl in NYC. I think Bethenny in her gut still remembers how it feels to worry about making ends meet, and is holding on to everything she can.

            • quincyil says:

I would like to think that assitants are respected and treated well by their employers. I doubt that hiring someone as an assistant gives your free reign to make fun of them on national TV. I think both Max and Nick took hits in the name of making Bethenny’s show a hit.

If this was a scripted comedy, it would not be a problem, but these are real people who in the case of Max, shares his embarrassment on facebook, and in the case of Nick, asked Bethenny what she meant by “creepy.” Bethenny makes fun of how these two men look. That’s good for “Bethenny Ever After,” but bad for the people she is making fun of for a moment of laughter from us.

              • VAgirl says:

Quincy, I see your point, but neither of these guys were forced to be filmed on Bethenny’s show. Both knew they were going to be on a reality show and the potential for uncomfortable moments, especially if it’s unscripted as it supposedly is.

              • Undermywheels says:

“creepy crawlers” were a toy bug-making thing when I was a kid…B probably just pulled that up not referring to Nick at all…just trying to find a catchy name.

            • DJ Loops Fruit says:

i agree with everything u said

          • DJ Loops Fruit says:

that being said he was an employee
            she was his boss
asking his bosses husband for a condom where ever is crossing the line

      • Rabble Rouser says:

I’m not sure where to put my reply so I’ll just bounce off of yours 🙂

Here is my take on it all.

Going back to the initial interview, it was pretty clear to me that Max was all talk and no action. Bethany seems to think he gave a ‘great interview’ but in actuality he didn’t. He made a lot of statements like “I can anticipate what you want and do it before you ask” which really don’t mean anything. It’s just bravado. Bethany should have asked for actual examples of work place experience.

I think we are all in agreement that he was hired because of the way he looked- and it was probably a strategic ploy on their part to bring in a younger demographic of viewers.

I also believe that Bethany set the stage for Max’s unprofessional conduct-which was also magnified by the fact they were creating a tv show around these moments.

I think when the camera’s weren’t rolling, Max was expected to do a lot of the grunt work, while Jen was an operations manager. By then Max was probably believing his own hype and found it beneath him. He couldn’t accept being asked to take out the trash and pick up dry cleaning after getting to take a limo ride with Bethany to a speaking engagement and getting to chat up girls; or going to a jewelry store and being encouraged to try and pick up the sales clerk.

I like the foodie guy too. I think the Seth Rogan think is part of his shtick.

      • DJ Loops Fruit says:

        he was a personal assistant
it shouldnt matter if he is male female ect
he is given task and he is supposed to do them
he was more of a charmer then an actual doer

  3. quincyil says:

Renee Zellweger was in the audience of “The Actor’s Studio” without false eyelashes and caked on makeup. She had a cute, but normal hair style. She knew she was going to be on camera, but chose to look normal unlike Gretchen with full makeup in bed, unlike Alexis going to a work out with false eyelashes, and unlike the Countess and Jill preparing for bed while Ginger farted in a bedroom with no windows.

    • Sha2000 says:

That’s because Renee Z is a real star making real $$$, the rest are wanna bees.

    • vilzvet says:

Renee did not look that great last night IMO. His parents were adorable, love that Italian/Irish combo! I looked up that his dad did pass away on Jan. 14th, the day after the parents’ house went on fire as Bradley and Renee were inside. I had never seen an actor on this show almost break down so many times, I thought you would mention it. He became very emotional looking at one of his teachers in the audience and of course his mom and dad. Very sweet to see. It was also interesting to see all the times he made it on camera in previous shows asking questions of the guests, must be a world record! I look forward to Hangover 2, the first was hilarious.

      • DJ Loops Fruit says:

i was suprised too no mention of how many times he was close to crying which i found sweet and endearing esp how much he appreciated what that one female teacher had done for him

loved when he got to ask deniro about awakenings

and then how it felt to get to work with him
he seems like a genuinely nice guy

    • DJ Loops Fruit says:

      but Renee looked awful
she always does unless she is in a film
she cant ever seem to get her eyes open other then a slit

and yet in chicago she looked beautiful
      the power of make up

It was a cute show last night.

Not sure if I am the only one who was rather uncomfortable during the Max “firing” scene but I kind of have to believe that Max himself had to have consented since this episode is not going to go well on his resume.

But I could do without the constant references to “poop, vaginas, and penis”. Not necessary. And I am not really sure of what the “hoopla” is about Nick as yet.

However, I do love Jason! Where can I find one like him?

    • twoile says:

@ “O” I agree about the ?”hoopla around Nick”, except 2 see that Foodies in & around NY + (tourists) will enjoy what B obviously is enthusiastic about, but only local interest I imagine but can enhance B’s newsletters w/his blog.:)

      • DJ Loops Fruit says:

no there are foodies all over that would be interested in his blog
having twitted to him the past couple of days i can tell you he is indeed a very interesting smart funny man and that he is much more accessable then you would think from seeing how shy he is on the show

    • ImaJillHater2 says:

ITA with your comment about Jason. How is it that such a great guy went single for so long?! Such a down to earth, nice guy (like his parents!). Bethenny hit the jackpot with the Hoppy family!

  7. NYCer says:

Typo you may want to fix- Gina’s husband seized (not ceased) her assets.
Why did they have to call Max into the office for his firing? Guess he wasn’t coming in every day? It seems weird that Bethenny kind of forced him into roleplaying how to pick up women in many situations and now dismisses him for being unprofessional. I thought she was intentionally trying to make him uncomfortable last year when she had him pack her underwear- I thought it was for tv. There is something missing in this story, don’t you think?
Max tweeted his side to the story this morning
http://twitter.com/maxmeisel – basically the same story from last night.
    Great blog, thanks

    • LynnNChicago says:

Max’s response was ironic when you look at the photo he has attached, looks like a frat house, boys behaving badly. I’m a bit tired of him complaining about his job duties, suck it up and buy the woman underwear if that is what she needs, this is difficult for you? Get over it! Packing a suitcase is outside your comfort zone? comeon!!!

Slamming a former employer is never a good idea, his job opportunities are going to be limited if he keeps this up.

      • WindyCityWondering says:

Max in his interview said he was a get the job done kinda guy and didn’t need supervision. Likely the thought of being on tv was more important than actually getting the job done. He could have parlayed this into an employment opportunity if he had worked hard.

      • California35 says:

        I agree with you –

I work in a totally diferent environment, but do see that the asistant does some things that some people would think is beneath them….but they are paid very well and get their perks. He did seem to enjoy being in the show, and his coments about the underware made me think he was okay with it, just not manly so he joked about it. The assistants I am talking about at my job don’t deal with the underware issue, but this show is a show not an office.

Okay I know I’ll be in the minority by saying this but, I think Bradley Cooper is funny looking. He’s handsome from a distance (like in the pic W/James Lipton) & but then up close (other unfortunate pic-wheres his chin?) I’m thinking uh-no. He look’s like a five year old to me. So I’m gifting three doses of my kind of handsome this morning; enjoy:

    • Sha2000 says:

      That’s how I roll ladies ; )

If I could reincarnate Cary Grant, I would do it in a minute. I LOVE every movie he ever did, no matter how campy. He could rock a Mr. Rogers sweater like nobody’s business. He just was the epitimy of well mannered. Why oh why can’t men today have just a little bit of those manners? I won’t my son to aspire to be like Cary. It seems like common courtesy is going by the wayside. Can we start a revolution to bring back gentleman and manners?

        • 2Stupid says:

          Oops want….

          • Sha2000 says:

That’s okay I added the word other above & have no idea why, lol! Yes Cary looked great from his head to his toes..great looking hands too which is important to look well groomed. Lol, I love a man with beautiful hands…always catch my self checking out Pres O. Distinguished, well spoken & dressed & great hands! All the qualities of the three men above. When I was pregnant I told my husband we had a boy I wanted to name him either Jay (for Jay Gatsby) or Cary with the middle name of Martin for Dr. King; we had two girls. And yes! My husband is distinguished, dresses well (most days) and has great hands too 🙂

            • alicia says:

Your taste is excellent Sha ! I agree, hands make the man. But I prefer men that have some callouses on their hands- not too soft.

        • Noreen says:

I love him too and Gregory Peck. My Mom said there should be Gregory Peck for every woman. We should be so lucky!

          • @tweatcyn says:

Ah, yes, Gregory Peck-To Kill A Mockingbird. Be still my heart. Let’s not forget Rock Hudson (even if he did bat for the other team). So handsome and manly.

    • DJ Loops Fruit says:

the funny thing is while you picked 3 handsome men the pixs u used for them werent the most flattering esp the taye diggs one
as for me Bradley will do just fine
if i had to pick my 3 faves it would be a strange grouping but Kyle Chandler is def in there as is Ben Stiller and of course Paul Rudd oh damn it has to be four as i forgot my all time fave is Jon Hamm

  9. viki55 says:

I am thinking Max really was an intern rather than an employee so there was no real need to actually fire him. B mentioned to Max how they had stopped using him. I think they agreed to film an ending for the audience without really hurting Max’s future employment opportunities. He had a chance to say his peace. I didn’t believe him, actions always speak louder than words, but someone out there will want to hire him.

  10. vilzvet says:

Bethenny’s Bravo blog just posted, it looks like she has changed the name of her book from A Place of Yes, interesting. Now it is All Roads Lead to Rome(?) That little Bryn looks exactly like Jason, doesn’t she? Carbon copy.

    • vilzvet says:

Oh, it looks like she is putting out TWO books, never mind, one must be a foodie only. Nick is going to help her with that one it seems. Has anyone checked yet to see if Nick is indeed doing a Culinary Crawl blog on her website?

      • quincyil says:

I looked Sunday, but did not see his blog there.

        • Olivia says:

Maybe it’s just me but how can one be a “food critic” and not eat meat??

Just asking since the look on his face when he found out he was eating the pork instead of the chicken looked like someone who had just bitten into a “sh#t sandwich”.

          • DarkSonnet says:

He is Jewish, he does not eat pork.

            • HD says:

I thought he didn’t say it was for religious reasons?

              • DarkSonnet says:

He didn’t say it, but he is Jewish as well as his parents and their parents before them.

He descends from a generationally affluent, highly educated Jewish lineage.

                • Rabble Rouser says:

He said he doesn’t eat ‘red meat’ so I don’t think it was influenced by religion.

                • DJ Loops Fruit says:

he said he didnt eat any RED meat pork isnt red its the other white meat

                  • Rabble Rouser says:

I didn’t think pork was a red meat, at least it doesn’t look that way in the package. I was thinking that if his rational was coming from a humanitarian stand point it would be because of how those larger animals are slaughtered.

I am only going by what he said. He never said anything about pork or why.

                  • Bea from NJ (@sweeetbea on Twitter) says:

                    I was thinking the same!

          • vilzvet says:

Right, good point, Olivia. He’s not tasting any of that “street meat”? And I thought he was eating a burger in that meet-cute scene in last week’s episode, after Jason and Bethenny left!

            • HD says:

Hmmmm he sure was eating a burger. Not only that, a double! You are right!! Okay….Now someone explain that because I think Nick is all an act. Don’t get me wrong. I like him but I think this is an act.

          • HD says:

Why do you have to eat meat to critique food?

I didn’t understand B saying that. I figured he would write about what he likes and people could try it if they wanted to. Like saying X Restrurant serves great apple pie. Well I would go to X restrurant for the pie and I am one that assumes if one thing is good, there is a possiblity that something else on the menu might be just as good as well. He might be the person to get people to try new things and get them in the door.

            • Noreen says:

I think it would be hard to be a food critic for street vendors if you don’t eat meat. But perhaps you are correct.

          • Adgirl says:

LOL. That ewwwww look was for real.

          • @tweatcyn says:

He’s not a food critic, just a foodie-conniseur. His blog is kind of a personal diary, similar to a Woody Allen monologue, but usually contains a picture of something he really enjoyed eating and where you can buy it and for how much. He’s a talented writer. He works poping pop-corn at a movie theatre, does some stand up and improv classes and performs in some skits that seem to emulate SNL stuff.

  11. viki55 says:

Last thought on Max. When I think of what he is all about I get stuck on the scene when he is about to have the massage and B walks in to confront him about going in before her guest. He starts to pull the towel up but then pushes it back down to expose himself more. That’s who he really is. It was always all about himself and getting attention. Totally different work ethic than Julie.

  12. WindyCityWondering says:

Thanks Lynn and Quincy – lots of recaps today.
Hooray – we are back to Bethenny!
My interest is in how she is managing her empire and her family and all the characters that are part of this adventure.
Max – was an intern and he clearly wasn’t working if Julie had to babysit him. He spoke his mind and Bethenny listened. I saw it as “your services will no longer be needed” – a parting of the ways without rancor. Bethenny wants a strong work ethic and Max was eye candy. Maybe Nick will be given the position after he proves himself on the blog project and I can see him being in charge of the newsletter/computer related/food portion of Bethenny’s business. He is as socially awkward as Bethenny is with the too much energy/information. Their interaction (like Shawn’s) is growing on me.
I loved the therapy session this time! Telling the doc he couldn’t break up with her was great – Bethenny wants to do right by all the people in her life and she sees the value of therapy as a tool to help her identify and think about the things that are new and important to her.

  13. Butters'Mom says:

Can someone cut and past Max’s side? I don’t facebook. You would be my new best friend.

A Different Side of the Story.by Max Meisel on Monday, March 14, 2011 at 9:18pm

.Alrighty, so before you write me off as the worst assistant on the planet, please hear me out…

Bethenny brought up a lot of valid points about my performance as her assistant. I haven’t been meeting all of her expectations and with more things being added to her plate by the day, she needs to have the proper support system around her. That being said, there are statements she made that don’t exactly sync up with the timeline.

The conversation with Jason about condoms at the Skinnygirl Party was taken way out of context. As inappropriate as it sounded, it didn’t take place exactly how it was pitched. It was a ‘guys talking at a bar’ kind of situation, however, I understand it was the wrong thing to talk about. I hold Jason in extremely high regard and I would never intentionally do anything to demean that.

Bethenny made a very bold statement about my motives for wanting to become her assistant. She believes I wanted to be around for the attention and the “red carpet glitz”. The way she spoke, you’d think I had been hanging with Cameran Diaz and Mark Wahlberg as a result of working for her. I can assure you, although Bethenny has risen in popularity substantially over the last few years, I didn’t look towards her as the fast track to popularity. As I’ve stated in previous blogs, I didn’t even know who Bethenny was prior to joining her. I had never watched the Real Housewives of New York or known she was an author. I was an intern during the day who was waiting tables at night when I applied for this job. I would have scooped ice cream out of a truck if the opportunity met me. I stated in my first blog that that I was a hungry kid looking for a job and those motives remain the same.

I’m sorry that the impression Bethenny has of me is that I am lazy and unmotivated. No one has ever known me to be those things. I graduated from the most competitive, lauded, and sought after communications school in the country because I have a tireless work ethic, and I was the shortest football player in the entire college nation during my time at Syracuse University because I had the heart of a lion and an unmatchable level of motivation. But of course, Bethenny only has my performance under her guise to judge me by, and often times my work ethic was mistaken for uncertainty and confusion.

I can’t begin to explain how out of my comfort zone I’ve been with every task I’ve performed. From picking thongs out of a drawer to building a crib, from purchasing her underwear to picking out her wardrobe, it’s all been as foreign as learning Chinese. I want to reiterate that I’m not making excuses for my mistakes. I acknowledge that I haven’t always been in top form. I’m writing this to shed a different shade of light on the situation.

I understand there is a lot of fixing to be done and even more uncertainty. But one thing’s for sure… Cookie still loves me!

      • Butters'Mom says:

Thanks Q!!!!! You are now my BFF.

      • Rabble Rouser says:

I wanted to post on his facebook

in regards to him talking about being the shortest football player with the heart of a lion.

        • vilzvet says:

How short was Rudy? Do you think Max was smaller? I never saw the movie, but I know Sean Astin played him. Is it worth a watch? I’m getting The Fighter today I think, looking forward to that. And right now I’m watching an episode of The Monkees, ah good stuff.

          • LavaLady says:

The Fighter is an excellent movie!

            • DJ Loops Fruit says:

i agree i didnt think i would like the fighter at all and now having seen it i LOVED it
              everyone in it was awesome
but i still liked the kings speech even more
to me they humanized a bigger then life character
its hard to imagine that queen elizabeths dad was such a loving dad as she always comes across so cold

          • Rabble Rouser says:

            He was 5’5.

I enjoyed the movie when I was younger; now that I am much more jaded and cynical I’m a little more critical of it. I’d say it still worth watching, although I wouldn’t pay to rent it.

I want to see The Fighter too

            • vilzvet says:

I guess Max is taller than 5.5, but not by much. The Fighter didn’t come in the mail today, so that means tomorrow. Can’t wait to see that. I love Christian Bale and great acting.

  14. Olivia says:

Knowing that most of these scenes are “contrived” it stands to reason that Max was informed beforehand and agreed to what was about to take place. I say this because in referencing back to the scene in the sauna, the camera was positioned INSIDE the room not at Bethenny’s back when she “discovered” him taking a turn ahead of her guests. A “surprise” scene would have had the camera looking over her shoulder when she opened the door not shooting her from within.

The camera was positioned inside the sauna to record Max and Bethenny not her other guests. This scene set up her supposed “disappointment” with him and his lack of awareness. Since the “firing” scene was shot only 4 months after she hired him it stands to reason that he was only signed on for a “short ride”. Very few scenes ever showed Bethenny actually “approving” of Max’s behavior from the beginning.

We are witnessing episodes that are now over 6 months old. My guess is that Max has moved on to another phase of his life with few regrets.

    • quincyil says:

and…. he probably has some concerns about future employment.

Bethenny claims this is her real life, but she is actually working quite hard to create a reality that we will enjoy on Bravo.

When the real housewives of NYC talk about Bethenny’s biting comments, they were objecting to her whit and her humor because they were her target.
I don’t think employees have less feeling than coworkers or Bravo.

I suspect Bethenny will be hiring and firing a lot of people over the lifetime of her show. She is looking for people are are different so she can use her whit and humor to entertain the masses. It’s fine to make fun of yourself. If your spouse and his mother don’t mind, you can make fun of them. If you do it to employees, it might be a problem. Bethenny’s Cookie doesn’t mind so that is a win win.

      • Olivia says:

I hear what you are saying but much of Bethenny’s popularity is based on her quick wit and she needs “foils” who are willing to subject themselves to it.

I could be wrong, it wouldn’t be the first time, but I have a feeling that Max was a willing participant. The audience would be outraged if she took her biting humor out on Jason’s parents as one example.

Max was showcased as a rather inept assistant which allowed her to unload her comments on someone who “goofed up” often enough to enlist his “firing’. My assumption is that this was a “mutual collaboration” which gave him exposure and her the perfect foil to play off of.

Thus his “firing” would come as no surprise when it happened.

        • DarkSonnet says:

Exactly. He was playing his part and following his “story line” which he knew had a beginning and an end.

        • ImaJillHater2 says:

ITA about Max. Also, I’ve always had the feeling he (and Jill Z, btw) had a personal connection to Andy Cohen… friend of the family/ “tribe-member”. Always felt he (& Jill) “got the job” b/c of who they knew.

          Anyone else have that feeling?

          • DJ Loops Fruit says:

no and tribe member sounds a tad racist

            • ImaJillHater2 says:

Sorry if I offended. I used “tribe member” because that’s a phrase Andy & Jill used to describe themselves as fellow Jews. (Actually I believe they used “members of the Tribe” on WWHL).

This is a common phrase among Jewish people, with the “Tribe” being the Tribe of Judah. Its not an offensive or racist term. Its a “historically correct” term and does not carry any negative connotation.

      • Scorpiosue1102 says:

I think Bethenny expected someone to do their job without having to hold their hand like her other assistant Julie. It seems like Bethenny has had Julie for a while and is very close to her. I see Bethenny as pretty loyal so I can’t see her wanting to fire a bunch of people. Max was all style and no substance.

  15. Rhetorica says:

This is my first year watching OC and after this week’s episode and WWHL, I’m done with it! They’ve set back the women’s movement 50 years! What bit@#hes & babies!

  16. HD says:

Now ya’ll know I called that Max things way back when. Max was hired for TV.

Bradley Cooper is so damn sexy! Mmmmmm honey chile! Mmmmm between him and Matthew Mcconaughey…chileeeeeeeeeeeee…a girl can dream!! But baby! Let me tell ya! Didn’t see one word of the interview and I don’t really care. That man looks good!

  17. WindyCityWondering says:

An internship is an opportunity few people get. Those who met or exceed their employer’s expectations may get a real job. Hopefully in Max’s next situation he will show those virtues he says he has and be successful in his career. He had the chance to write his own ticket with Bethenny and he failed to produce. And seriously, who wants their failure shown on tv – Max did!

    • Anne says:

How is an internship something few people get? Everyone I know had an internship in University, law and business school. Everyone. Some where hired directly by their employers and some weren’t, but never were they denigrated.

  18. HD says:

B’s problem with Max I think (other than her hiring the attractive guy) was that he could not seperate work from playtime with her. She left this up to him however he was not responsible enough to handle it. Most assistants can’t. A mature one can. I have been an assistant for 11 years. My boss and I are GREAT FRIENDS. We laugh, we joke, I mean so close we share everything but when its time to work all that playtime is over. I know how to seperate work time and playtime. He and I can laugh all day long but when he says HD I need you to handle blah blah blah, I better make sure it is done.

    • WindyCityWondering says:

ITA – Max also had the luxury of Julie training him. Yet Bethenny said Julie has to babysit him. Good relationships between employees/employers are great but getting the job done is what you are evaluated for. He is young, Bethenny is a spitfire and Max didn’t adapt. Remember Julie’s face when she saw the film crew in the apartment – her immediate thought was she messed up Bethenny’s schedule!

      • HD says:

Right! Too much playtime. Getting massages before the guests? Who does that? I wouldn’t have even attempted to get a massage. Asking B’s husband for condoms? That is never appropriate. I mean you can joke but you always have to remember that is your BOSS! Or you will be haaa-haaa-heee-heeeing in the unemployment line.

        • California35 says:

I thought of that also, he can’t say buying and packing underwear in not appropriate if he did other things that were not appropriate. Like the sun tan lotion, the condom thing, and one time when he told Julie something about having a baby when they were putting the basinet together.

By the way, I never dislike Max. I just noticed some things that in another job (or working for B) would not work. He said what he thought B wanted to hear in the interview to get the job, but then he acted differently once he had the job.

    • California35 says:

There was a temp working at my job who reminded me on Jason (except his looks). He is a nice guy and tried to make friends. He would do what he was asked to do, and then he would go talk and joke around. The person telling him what to do, would wonder where he was or assumed he was still working on that task. If he was questioned about it, he would always have an answer and would not show any remorse. He would do what he was asked to do and only that, if he was asked about the follow up or something that was supposed to be done, he would say that he didn’t know he had to do that. Some people are like that. It works for a while, but then the employer would find someone else. The joking around was similar also, once he noticed the person he was talking to is friendly or said something funny, then he would take it further and keep joking. Some temps try to go beyond their responsibilities to prove themselves, other just come to do what they are told knowing they are here temporarily.

  19. Olivia says:

There are two ways to look at the “Max” incident:

    1. It was contrived with the collaboration already set in motion by both Max and Bethenny’s approval. Just another day in “reality tv land”.

    2. She actually did fire him on camera and in full view of a national audience. If so then she delivered a rather painful and humiliating blow to a young kid regardless of how good or bad he did his job. Rather mean IMHO. And remember her response when Martha Steward did the same to her?

I prefer to accept Number 1. Part of a “reality show” that bears little relation.

    • boston02127 says:

Either way, he had (I don’t want to say the job of a lifetime) but he had a hugh opportunity working/interning for Bethenny Frankel and he blew it. Even if that was not the position he wanted for the rest of his life it would of been great on a resume.

      • Olivia says:

You may have missed my point.

Bethenny admitted to Andy only last week how she felt when Martha Stewart eliminated her from competition on national tv and is still able to remember the words that were used to this day. She put them in her book.

She then proceeds to do the same with Max – aside from his deficiencies that may have led to this decision – by doing exactly the same thing. If true, then it would have been much better to have done this offscreen and not in full view of an audience while she then referred to her Blackberry by way of dismissal.

Which is why I prefer to believe that the entire scene was agreed upon in advance. It makes her less of a “mean girl” and more of a tv performer looking to add some drama into a show.

        • quincyil says:

Wow… the Martha Stewart firing of Bethenny is similar to the firing of Max. Well, I hope he uses that to becomes as successful as Bethenny is.

I wonder if Max has contract restrictions on discussing how the show is created. It would be interesting to see if he was set up in the spa by the production people.

          • WindyCityWondering says:

IMO Max was likely told to get a massage by the production crew as a segment and then Bethenny was told that Max was getting a massage and some of her guests were waiting to get one as well. Max should have cleared getting a massage with Bethenny first!

            • Olivia says:

It’s Bethenny’s show. Doubtful that they did this without her knowledge beforehand.

She probably has some control over the editing in this series as it bears her name and the brand she is promoting.

But the fact that Max was lounging in the sauna with cameras rolling has to suggest he knew that something was going on. If not then she did judging by the presence of where the camera was stationed.

              • quincyil says:

Here is a paragraph about Max from Bethenny’s blog on bravotv.com.

“As for Max, the bottom line is that he wasn’t really interested in hard work. He really wanted attention and to meet girls. I can’t blame him for whatever his priorities are. I’m just running a real business here, and I have zero tolerance for people trying to take the easy way out. I busted my ass to get here and Julie and Jackie, my assistants, bust theirs every day. “

                • California35 says:

That is what I figured. Julie seems focus and doing a good job, that is what B needs.

        • California35 says:

Was she does rough? I have not seen it 😦 I did see the clip of when Martha fired her, and that was brutal. Either way B made it, so hopefully Max learns from this experience. Also, he could just NOT be an assistant to a girl/woman/lady. As he said in his “talking head” in the past, he has education and paid a lot for it to be buying underwear. Hopefully he gets a good job (I am saying it honestly) where he makes good money and get good experience, and he leaves the fun and joking around outside of work.

      • Anne says:

Really how so? I have met many PAs of famous people in NY; such as, Robert De Niro, Bill O’Reilly, etc and all want to break into acting or news. However, I haven’t seen them do the jump as of yet and that was years ago and they still just executive PAs and De Niro adn O’Reilly are heavy hitters. O’Reilly highest viewed cable talk show and De Niro is a legend.

Max graduated from the Newhouse School and should have been a PA for someone at Comcast aka the owners of NBC in high position like Steve Burke. He hirers young talent exclusively as one of his PAs and then promotes them to other areas within the Comcast family. Burke is the Zucker of NBC now.

  20. boston02127 says:

I didn’t care for Max from day one. He seemed like the type that thinks “funny” will get him by and I don’t care for that. And I never thought he was funny. After reading A Different Side of the Story.by Max Meisel (Thx Quincy) I don’t like him at all now.

If he’s so level headed and such a go getter he would of taken his job more seriously. Also, the part he wrote about being out of his comfort zone seemed like an excuse. If you’re so out of your comfort zone, you get out. I don’t believe him for a minute. I think he’s lazy. (and a little dumb).

    • quincyil says:

I’d say, “Young.” It takes time for some men and women to adapt to a work environment which is very different from school.

Vicki Gunvalson is someone that does not know how to relate to employees. You do not look to see what an employee is wearing under the covers. It has to be in an employee handbook somewhere.

Ramona Singer’s employees look like deer in headlights whenever they film in her office. They are scared to death of Ramona.

I thought that “The Countess” called Rosie, a housekeeper, but she was a laundress, cook, babysitter, dog walker, and suitcase hauler.

I had asked on the board about the pay scale of someone like Rosie in Manhattan and WSL said, “$15.00 an hour.” Housekeeper out here in fly over country are paid $10-15 and they don’t cook or babysit. Our costs of living are much lower too.

CT has strict laws about the nanny/employer contract. The paper that you had to fill out were so complicated that my daughter pays the bank to do it.

I may be more sensitive to the plight of the household worker as I was housekeeper while I was young and I did stay with elderly people for pay while family member went to weekends and short vacations. I must be looking at all of this from Max’s and Nick’s perspective.

      • 2Stupid says:

I have always considere a housekeeper as someone that works in the home and does all those things. We had someone when I was growing up that lives with us during the week and went to her home on the weekends. She watched me and my siblings and also did all of the housework. My husband had the same type of housekeeper growing up, but she left at 6:00. However, a maid may come in and only be expected to clean the house, someitmes do laundry, but usually children are not involved at all. The sitter service I use, also inlcudes doing laundry or cleaning if you would like, however, I always decline but pay the hourly rate for those services. I think if you hire someone to work more than one day a week for you, then more things are expected for you to do.

        • quincyil says:

I had a babysitter when my kids were little. She originally came from a service and there were rules. We just kept the rules for the many years that she worked for me. We were friends. I went to her family events and when she died, I wept with her family at the funeral and burial. I respected her and loved her.

          • 2Stupid says:

My housekeeper/nanny came to my college graduation, and when she died we were there at her funeral and her family said she always thought of us as family. My half sister’s nanny came to her son’s funeral and wept as if she had lost one of her own. She still comes to visit my dad at least once a month and is invited to most holidays. I could really relate to how Bethenny was reacted to Gina, because our household help has always been so much more. My husband’s housekeeper came to his 4oth b’day party and will come to gigs he plays no matter how late. Ok I think I have suffciently made this point LOL.

Even in NJ the going rate is much higher. My mother would pull in a good $20 to $25 an hr and that was 6 years ago (she’s retired now)

  21. WindyCityWondering says:

WWHL – Gretchen and Slade were amoung the growing number of horrible guests. Slade wants to be a star and Gretchen better find her coattails soon – no joke. Andy continues to gloss over real questions (like child support) and is more interested in getting to his really stupid games. Jill and the makeup tweets should have been ignored. And the other wives calling in to ask questions/defend themselves screams cheapshot and adding artificial drama to WWHL. This used to be a good show and I looked forward to watching it. Now if a guest is of no interest to me I will be changing the channel.

    • boston02127 says:

It’s probably not nice to say (type) but I can’t wait for the 2 of them to break up. I bet Gretchen won’t be laughing (like she always does when she talks) telling that story.

      • WindyCityWondering says:

ITA – IMO, Slade is behaving because he smells money and he can manipulate her very easily. Betting there will be no prenup either.

        • Nancy says:

I just can’t watch them anymore. Her laugh drives me up the wall. Slade makes my skin crawl.

  22. Rabble Rouser says:

Seeing Slade and Gretchen lie their asses off on WWHL made me ill.

Slade owes over 130k in child support and WAS arrested on non-payment. He was also ordered to find work outside TV.

The fact that his son is very ill- and having him sit in jail for contempt of court will ensure that NO money gets paid is probably the only reason he’s on the outside. He should thank his lucky stars instead of trying to BS that is proof of his innocence.

Like I said, you don’t get a choice to pay child support OR medical costs.

    • WindyCityWondering says:

Slade is a reptile and the whole skating around child support/medical bills made my skin crawl. His retort about hooking up with housewives should have made Gretchen run for the hills!

    • PJ says:

Actually if you owe back child support they will put you in jail without regard to how the child support is going to be paid. They will issue a Bench Warrant and send a Sherriff to your house to arrest you. After the Bench Warrant has been issued If you so much as get pulled over for a traffic violation they will arrest you, take you to the local police station where they will make a call to your family saying come and pay the back support before the county gets here because once the county comes it’s a lot more difficult to get out of jail. So I don’t know where you get your information from, I don’t know how Slade could stay out of jail if he owes back support, especially that much. Slade is not in hiding he is easy to find. I don’t want to debate but I know how the system works and I find it difficult to believe that such a public person could stay out of jail owing that much back support. Not to mention that they would attach any tax refunds he gets and any monies he gets paid.

      • Rabble Rouser says:

I never said that he couldn’t be sent to jail, I said it was unlikely that he would be. I said the fact that his son was ill, is probably why he is on the outside. I never actually said the courts take into account that being in custody would hinder support; I said said that would only make it more likely their wouldn’t be income coming in to pay it. There was a break between the two statements.

Given the amount that is owed in child support in the U.S. and the number of people who are NOT in jail for non-payment-my statement is accurate. Especially in county that are dealing with over crowding- e.g. Lindsey Lohan is charged with a felony- and if she takes the plea, she will be sentenced to 3 months and will likely serve 19 days.

Slade owes over 130k in back child support and it is posted on numerous websites; namely this one

I’m pretty sure the owner would verify this info-

Not to mention his numerous court appearances and related articles that say the same thing.

If you want to take Slade’s word as opposed to the numerous other sources out there go ahead. I think your adoration of Gretchen is clouding your judgment.

        • PJ says:

I don’t adore Gretchen, how did you get that out of what I said? I don’t think I even mentioned her at all. FYI I’m not a fan of anyone on OC including Gretchen and Slade.

I know how the system works and some of your statements didn’t fit with what I know. Some of what you said is pure conjecture.

I’m not taking Slade’s word I just like to deal with facts and I think it’s wrong to condemn a person unless you have all the facts. How do you know that there isn’t truth in what Gretchen and Slade are saying?

I know how devastating a serious illness can be on a family both emotionally and financially. The sad fact is that most people these days people don’t have health insurance that pays 100% for everything. There are big co pays and also caps on what health insurance will pay out. So to say you don’t get to pick if you pay medical bills or child support is great on paper but for most it is not reality. The reality is that a serious illness can devastate a family financially, even a wealthy family. You can only pay what you have. The state of health care in this country is appalling.

People should pay their child support there is no question about that. But there are two sides to every story and I like to hear both sides before I decide what I think about a person.

          • Rabble Rouser says:

I thought I read a comment a few blogs ago that was flattering to Gretchen, although I could be mistaken or it could have been sarcasm. If I am mistaken I apologize.

I actually do know-first hand- how financially devastating an a serious medical diagnosis can be on a family. Which is why it’s important for people to have health insurance BEFORE they need it. One year, between myself and my two daughters our out of pocket was 15k- and that doesn’t include premiums. If we didn’t have insurance I can’t even fathom how much it would have cost.

With my oldest daughters medical issues, we spend $320 a month just on co-pays for her therapy.

I don’t know how many more links you want. The court documents are listed on ROL, he is seriously delinquent in his child support.

He’s ordered to pay $3,500 per month and is saying his income is $0.

He says he owes the IRS over 100K, so as you suggested- there is no return for CS collection agency to seize.

            He is a dead beat…

            • PJ says:

He could very well be a deadbeat I’m not saying he isn’t.

I just know how expensive it is to try and save a person’s life. My husband has life threatening asthma. His asthma is so severe that a severe attack caused him to have a heart attack when there is nothing wrong with his heart. The treatments his Dr. wants to try to control his asthma are $6k a week. We have insurance but things are changing and they now only pay 70% of anything after the deductable and co pay. That’s only part of his treatment. Plus since this treatment is new we don’t know if the insurance will pay anything at all. To pay for treatments for cancer is even more expensive. My point is that if and that is IF Slade is footing the bill for saving his son he has a lot on his plate and I could understand why he would be behind on support.

But maybe he isn’t footing the bill for the medical and is just a deadbeat, I don’t know. If that is the case then if I were Gretchen, all I can say is no sex can be good enough to put up with someone like that. I would run if I were her. Of course what Slade does and doesn’t do is only speculation on my part as I really don’t know. It certainly is not my intention to defend a deadbeat Dad.

I actually stopped watching OC because I don’t like any of the people on it. I don’t remember making a comment about Gretchen but maybe I did and have forgotten.

              • Rabble Rouser says:

I’m glad that I came back to this blog so that we can wind this down now that we have some common ground.

I’m very sorry about your husbands medical condition and residual effects. Believe me, I understand what it is like to deal with insurance companies, deductibles and everything that comes with it.

As for Gretchen, she is not only compliant in Slade’s behavior she helps enable it.

Slade is not only financial negligent in is responsibilities as a father but emotionally as well. In court documents that he filed (or where filed on his behalf) he claims that despite their being a 40-60 split in the custody agreement, Gray only spends 1% of his time with his dad-using his illness as an excuse.

This is a man who has checked out.

Even on a ‘bad day’ in the life of this sweet boy, there is no valid reason why he can’t be the one who takes him to the doctor or to therapy or reads him a story while he is in bed.

                • PJ says:

For the child’s sake I hope Slade steps up. All children deserve two parents to love them. I have an adoped neice and nephew and even though my sister and her husband are wonderful parents being abandoned by their birth parents still haunts them. No one deserves that.

                  • Rabble Rouser says:

                    Yes, you are right.

I can’t imagine how hurtful it would be to a child to feel unwanted.

Thank God for your niece and nephew your sister and her hubby stepped in and gave them the love they deserve.

    • PJ says:

The article you metnion is from 2009 and the amount is 10k not 130k. Usually the bond is the amount of the back support. Seriously where do you get your information from?

      • Rabble Rouser says:

Why don’t you post some PROOF that Slade doesn’t owe back C.S.

Oh- and for your info Gretchen did have a boyfriend- JAY- while she was engaged to Jeff….she is a liar too.

        • PJ says:

Good grief I don’t care what Gretchen did or when she did it. I could care less about anyone on OC.

If you think everything you read or watch in the media is 100% correct you are wrong. There is a slant on everything.

      • Rabble Rouser says:

        Oh and here’s another link…

I don’t want to spam the board with 383857845 links that say the same thing, I don’t think i would help. I don’t think your willing to except the truth. That’s cool though, you are allowed to be as wrong as you want to be, that’s the greatness of this place 🙂

But unless you have credible proof that contradicts that…don’t question me or my information.

        • PJ says:

I thought the beauty of this board was that people can express their opinion. I guess that is unless their opinion is contrary to yours. Someone should have mentioned that.

          • OneMoreInBoston says:

PJ- you brought it on yourself by acting like a snot.

If you disagree with someone facts and figures- you could be a little nicer about it OR prepare yourself for the onslought.

            • PJ says:

All I did was ask where she got her information from. I seriously wanted to know. I wasn’t being a snot. It always amazes me that people have all this information and think they know exactly what is going on with people we only watch on TV and don’t really know. There are always two sides and I like to know both sides before forming an opinion. In my opinion she was the snot not me. I would never tell someone not to dare to question “my facts” or call them a looser. That is taking things too far.

              • Rabble Rouser says:

I think when you ask someone “Where did you get your information from” followed by “Seriously, where did you get your information from”….it denotes hint of head rolling dismissive attitude.

              • Rabble Rouser says:

                I also didn’t call you a LOSER.
I said “Sizzle, LOSING, Bye” and that was a joke, re Charlie Sheen.

                • PJ says:

LOL. Ok sounded like you were calling me or my opinion a looser. I mean same thing, come on. I seriously wanted to know where you got your information. But upon reflection I can see how it may have sounded. Like I said I am always amazed at the information people have about others on this board. I don’t take the media as gospel when reporting on people as often what is said is only opinion and there are always two sides. If you thought that was being snotty you certainly made up for it in your replies. Truce.

      • Rabble Rouser says:

Oh- and just to blow your little theory of the CS being 10k and not 130k because that was the amount of the warrent- here is another article..that mentions both.

They have children so they must know about sex, but no one ever talks about these things.

  28. kbinldo says:

I thought all along that Max was an unpaid intern. Interns, especially those who are unpaid, are there to *learn.* You don’t give them really heavy responsibilities (unless you think they are capable), nor do you have them do your packing or panty shopping.

Expecting Max the (possibly unpaid) intern to pack & buy panties is just as sexist & out of line as a businessman telling his secretary to pick up his dry cleaning & a present for his wife during lunch. If all Bethenny wanted was someone to run her errands & do chores while she’s at work, she should have hired a personal assistant.

That being said, I thought Max was a tool & was one of those who thought Bethenny should have hired Nick in the first place. 🙂

    • quincyil says:

I forgot that he was an intern, not a personal assistant. The two women that work for Bethenny are actually working for the business, so I wonder if they are packing for her.

Hiring interns seems to be the “in” thing. You don’t pay them much, but you expect them to work as hard as highly paid employees. At least, that is what Bethenny says in her blog:

“As for Max, the bottom line is that he wasn’t really interested in hard work. He really wanted attention and to meet girls. I can’t blame him for whatever his priorities are. I’m just running a real business here, and I have zero tolerance for people trying to take the easy way out. I busted my ass to get here and Julie and Jackie, my assistants, bust theirs every day. “

    • kbinldo says:

About the above, I am speaking as the daughter of a secretary (RIP Mom) & a professional who has had secretaries & assistants working under me. I would never have thought to ask any of them to run personal errands or pack my suitcase, much less buy my underwear! (I did once ask a co-worker to do buy undies for me, but she is also an attorney & I was in the hospital at the time, so couldn’t do it myself.)

      • quincyil says:

It seems that normal work place rules are not in play for assistants, but don’t small employers have to follow basic laws about what you can ask and not ask when hiring? Bethenny was concerned if the men were gay or straight. I would think that no employer is allowed to ask that question.

        • kbinldo says:

Depends on the type of “assistant.” Was Max hired as Bethenny’s “personal” assistant, or just an assistant for the office? And yeah, I don’t think you can ask someone about their sexual orientation on an interview.

        • Anne says:

Absolutely in NYC. She is lucky that Max doesn’t sue her or NBC, if he has any damages; such as, not finding another job and alludes it was do to the show. Just hire a good NYC employment attorney. He could easily make a great case for sexual harassment and creation of a hostile environment to work in through that segment.

      • Noreen says:

For all practical purposes, I am professional assistant (actually I am a paralegal but since there is only one boss and one me, I do everything) and I don’t do any personal errands unless it involves scheduling. But if I am hired as a “personal” assistant, packing suitcases, trips to the store, dry cleaners and ordering lunch seems pretty normal to me. And by the way, I would do anything for my boss or his family and am grateful every moment for the job and the opportunity to work my ass off in this horrible economy.

        • kbinldo says:

I see your point, Noreen, but there’s a big difference in wanting to do those things because you want to & doing them on your own time because you *have* to. Secretaries used to be expected to run their boss’s personal errands on their own time (& sometimes their own dime) in addition to answering the phones, doing dictation, typing up letters, filing, etc.

Well, if it has gone down into the tile, Home Depot has “Tile Lab Stain Remover.” You put a dab on the stain and cover it with plastic wrap. Then you let it dry. It will pull the stains out of marble, granite and tile if the tiles are porous which it seems yours are. If you get the stain out, clean your flour and put a tile sealer down. That will keep stains from going into the tile itself in the future.

      Ugh Lynn, that is horrible.
I color my hair at home and managed to get dye all over the bathroom counter and wall. It turned purple. I can paint the wall but not the white counter. I am reminded everyday! LOL.

      • LynnNChicago says:

That’s bad…this stupid nail polish is starting to come off but I think I’m going to have pink grout between the white tiles for quite a while, I knew I should have sealed it right away. Sorry about your white counter, how irritating! 😦 Thanks for all the great advice. You guys are the best! xoxo

    • twoile says:

Since u already tried nailpolish remover sstop now & purchase pure acetone
can find at Sallys beauty supply or some store like that. The dry spots that are thick enough can be removed by a razor blade stripper….only if the tile is smooth not bumpy….otherwise wait & use the acetone…it evaporates quickly & u should only use (no kids around) well vent area small sections at a time.good luck…don’t dispair if it isn’t clear after 1 try do again. I’m trusting that the tile has a polish finish….if dull I’ not sure.

there’s a book put out by consumer reports called “how to clean absolutely everything” maybe you can google it, lynn. good luck! (I’m one of those,”when the stain won’t come out, try SOS!)

I have a question. Was Max’s internship with Bethenny paid or unpaid?

My daughter goes to college in NYC, and she and most of her friends there have had unpaid internships during their years of college and summers, not after graduating. Unpaid internships are plentiful in the city, the purpose is to get experience in a few areas before you graduate, so you have something to put on your resume. And having some “work” experience to show your potential employer will never hurt.

But Max had already finished college when Bethenny hired him. So did he take the job because he wanted to be on TV.

  32. val says:

I’m not 100% sure ,but on the season finale of Bethenny Getting Married, didn’t Bethenny give a speech at dinner singing everyone praises including Max?

  33. Mimisfbay says:

Max, what a dolt. When she asked him to buy/pack underwear I couldn’t help but think that we would all be screaming if this show were about a 40 year old man asking this of a 21 year intern/assistant of either sex. Oh, wait, like Jeff?

Then we have Vicki having the employees sleep in adjoining rooms! Puleeze, she is completely mad. She will be lucky if one of those young employees doesn’t sue her ass. She is in the insurance business and doing that kind of thing? She better have great insurance that will cover more than E & O. Oh, and since when is being psychotic in any way, shape or manner a complement? Groan. I will not be tuning in to anymore OC. This last episode was just offensive.

Bethenny though, still love her. I am stunned that she can keep us all tuned in to a weekly show about her life. Yeah, I agree that some of it is staged but kinda in a good way. She really knows what we will all like. Her comments about Nick were biting, no pun intended. Love that he won’t eat “red meat” but ordered a double double at the burger spot.

    • twoile says:

@”Msf” ITA that Vicky (icky) has opened herself up 4 sexual her/ass/ment suits right & left……hope she has insurance:)or she won’t just b supporting Don in the stlye that he has become used to….but all those “boys” & “girls” (ickys language) 4 whom she has oversteped her bounds…..Icky is /has always been OUT of control (woohoo) loud/crass/no class/rude/invasive/over the hill big time/broad in its’ most common sense. This needs 2 b her last season.

    Square Testicles

An elderly woman walked into the Bank of America one morning with a purse full of money. She wanted to open a savings account and insisted on talking to the president of the Bank because, she said, she had a lot of money.

After many lengthy discussions (after all, the client is always right) an employee took the elderly woman to the president’s office.

The president of the Bank asked her how much she wanted to deposit. She placed her purse on his desk and replied, ‘$165.000’. The president was curious and asked her how she had been able to save so much money . The elderly woman replied that she made bets.

The president was surprised and asked, ‘What kind of bets?’

The elderly woman replied, ‘Well, I bet you $25,000 that your testicles are square.’

The president started to laugh and told the woman that it was impossible to win a bet like that.

The woman never batted an eye. She just looked at the president and said, ‘Would you like to take my bet?’

‘Certainly’, replied the president. ‘I bet you $25,000 that my testicles are not square.’

‘Done’, the elderly woman answered. ‘But given the amount of money involved, if you don’t mind I would like to come back at 10 ‘ clock tomorrow morning with my lawyer as a witness.’ ‘No problem’, said the president of the Bank confidently.

That night, the president became very nervous about the bet and spent a long time in front of the mirror examining his testicles, turning them this way and that, checking them over again and again until he was positive that no one could consider his testicles as square and reassuring himself that there was no way he could lose the bet.

The next morning at exactly 10 o’clock the elderly woman arrived at the president’s office with her lawyer and acknowledged the $25,000 bet made the day before that the president’s testicles were square.

The president confirmed that the bet was the same as the one made the day before. Then the elderly woman asked him to drop his pants etc. so that she and her lawyer could see clearly. The president was happy to oblige.

The elderly woman came closer so she could see better and asked the president if she could touch them.. ‘Of course’, said the president. ‘Given the amount of money involved, you should be 100% sure.’

The elderly woman did so with a little smile. Suddenly the president noticed that the lawyer was banging his head against the wall. He asked the elderly woman why he was doing that and she replied, ‘Oh, it’s probably because I bet him $100,000 that around 10 o’clock in the morning I would be holding the balls of the President of the Bank of America.

Just rewatched the Bethenny and Max dialog. He is acting – and not that well because when you are fired/let go/downsized you are usually upset. Julie really wants him gone and doesn’t want Bethenny going off on him. Staged but still uncomfortable.

actually Lynn it isnt Andys decision
its a nice thought to think he was the one to decide not to put the harpy on the air but it came from the associate producer

Just saw on Bethenny’s website she is doing a book signing very close to me, in Ridgewood, NJ. Thinking about going. Wonder how crowded it will be?

    • DJ Loops Fruit says:

i used to have a b/f from Ridgewood

i would expect the signing to be huge but Lynn would know more as she has gone to a couple

I grew up in North Arlington. Lived in Ramsey, Allendale, and now Mahwah. I wonder if I should go early to line up. It’s a really small bookstore, so I imagine there will be a line outside.

If you decide to go, please share your thoughts here. I’m sure she really tries hard to entertain the audience.

      • LavaLady says:

I will do that for sure. I think my sister may go with me. She went to one of Theresa’s signings last summer.
