IHJZ Real Housewives of New York Review/Preview Luann de Lesseps and A Bethenny Sighting.
Real Housewives of New York Preview LuAnn De lesseps
She may have had a legitimate title of “Countess” while married to her husband, however, that marriage is over and this woman was born and raised in the United States. We don’t have that title here, it means absolutely nothing here and she isn’t any different from any other person or any other housewife.
Similar to Cat from DC Housewives, Luann was divorced while filming The Real Housewives yet we did not see the couple fighting or having conflict on screen.
Similar to Kim from Atlanta Housewives, Luann recorded a song with absolutely no ability to sing and believes all the hype from people saying she sounds like Madonna.
Similar to Lynne from Orange County, Luann has a troubled teenager who uses foul language, sneaks out of her house at night and smokes pot.
Similar to NeNe from Atlanta, Luann wrote a book full of information that no one is interested in and it tanked.
Luann seems to think that she has more class, manners and etiquette than other people when in fact her passive aggressive behavior is the furthest thing from classy, she may as well be chewing with her mouth open.
Class is the ability to not only feel comfortable yourself but make others comfortable in any situation, people from any walk of life and any social, economical and ethnic background. Class has a lot of different meanings to a lot of different people but I think we can all agree that someone who continuously tells you that they have class usually do not have any class. Show me, don’t tell me!
Luann visited a group of girls at a Harlem YMCA and it was some of the most awkward scenes Luann has had on screen. She didn’t relate to these girls at all, and her comments afterward that the girls appreciated that she took time out of her busy Countess schedule to spend time with them was ridiculous.
These girls seemed bored to tears, they would much rather have been doing anything else but talking to this pompous woman.
Luann likes to take little subtle digs at people, she straightened Bethenny out for introducing her to a limo driver as “Luann” rather than “Your Royal Heiness The Countess of Nothing”.
It is interesting that Luann de Lesseps seemed to get a pass last season. Her behavior was horrible, she was rude, gossiping and passive-aggressive on almost every episode yet because Jill Zarin’s behavior was worse, Luann probably didn’t get the criticism she deserved.
Season Three opened with Ramona’s yacht party for the girls and Luann was completely rude and attacked Ramona for something that Mario had said weeks before. It was the wrong place, the wrong time and the wrong person to attack.
Luann then refused to go to Ramona’s Labor Day party, and influenced Jill not to go either. Jill was staying with Luann in the Hamptons and Luann decided to throw a party of her own. Knowing that Alex and Simon were going to be at Ramona’s party, Luann and Jill pressured Alex to leave Ramona’s party early and go over to Luann’s house.
At Jill’s Saks party Luann was in everybody’s business, when Ramona asked Kelly about getting her breasts done it was Luann who jumped in and tried to tell Ramona she was being inappropriate. But the best part was Luann telling viewers in her interview that it is ok to talk about it behind their back, it is ok to whisper about it but never to their face. Is that in your etiquette book Luann? Talking behind people’s back is fine. Good advice.
Luann seemed to be instrumental in keeping Jill from accepting Bethenny’s attempts at reviving their friendship. Luann told Jill that Bethenny was toxic, that she was horrible and mean, she also pulled Jill out of the discussion at Ramona’s house. It seems that Luann gave Jill the encouragement she needed to keep the battle going with her constant digs at Bethenny. Bethenny was right, Luann is a snake.
Luann’s behavior was definitely snake-like at Kelly’s 100 Most Eligible Bachelor party. When Bethenny arrived at the party, Luann accompanied Jill as she got up and walked away. Fair enough, their last confrontation was not pleasant. However, upon learning that Bethenny was engaged, Luann gave the most insincere congratulations and in the same breath confronted Bethenny about the snake remark. Leaving Bethenny no option, she apologized to Luann but it was fake and insincere just as it was for Luann to offer her congratulations when it was clear she wasn’t happy for Bethenny, it was all about her getting the apology that she wanted.
I have to admit that the way her husband of 16 years left her was horrible. This man clearly has no class and treated his wife and mother of his children with no respect. I think that had he at least taken a few days to fly his ass back to New York to tell his wife to her face that he was leaving her would have been more appropriate.
Luann, like many single mom’s is struggling to raise teenage children who are clearly rebelling and most likely angry. It isn’t clear whether or not these struggles will appear on screen this upcoming season, hopefully Luann had the sense and the ability to ensure Bravo omit any reference to her children.
Luann has a very high opinion of herself, she seems to think that whatever she has to say is so important that everyone should stop and listen when Luann speaks. At the Season Three reunion Luann stopped the conversation no less than three times to say something completely irrelevant. For example when the talk turned to Jill asking her cast mates not to film with Bethenny, Luann chimed in and made everyone stop and listen as she said that from season to season, someone (not everyone) but some of the cast have asked others not to film with “such and such”. Wow Luann, thanks for clearing that up. We got that from the discussion that was already underway. She pulled the same thing announcing that the audience will never see her bedroom or her bathroom. Who cares?
This is a woman who insists on inflicting her horrible singing voice on viewers, there is no way that she didn’t hear herself singing, she is embarrassing herself and her family. She found a “producer” who is star-struck by her title and who is a “yes-man” and is clearly just happy to be on television no matter how ridiculous he sounds telling Luann she can sing. I found it hysterical that Kim Zolciak said she didn’t like Luann’s song, particularly when Kim’s singing voice is just as bad, if not worse than Luann’s.
What can we expect from Luann this season, from what we’ve seen she is still on “Team Jill” even though she wasn’t horribly loyal at last season’s reunion, without Luann, Jill has only crazy Kelly. (and possibly the new girl, Cindy)
We see in the previews Luann continues her attacks on Alex, Luann seems to follow Jill’s lead and sees Alex as weak and someone she can easily pick on. While Alex wasn’t talking about Luann, I certainly see Luann as “A Thug in a cocktail dress”. There is no longer subtle passive aggressive digs, she comes right out with it this season. Pretending to have class and talking behind people’s backs is over, she’s now attacking straight to their face.
The jig is up, after eavesdropping on telephone conversations and encouraging Jill to lie to Bethenny, her gross kissing scenes with her date Courte, ridiculous singing career and her grudge against Mario that went on for months over being called “Countless” are just a few things that crushed her “class” persona, no one is buying it anymore.
I do appreciate that she isn’t continuing to push a failed book on viewers and fans of The Real Housewives of New York, unlike Jill Zarin we don’t have to hear about her book constantly. She does continue to push herself as an “etiquette expert” which is laughable after he behavior on the show. Luann appears on TV and writes a column in OK Magazine as an etiquette expert. Anyone who takes her seriously hasn’t seen her in action.
Luann is a cigarette smoker, I do give her credit for keeping it off screen, unlike Kim Zolciak who can’t seem to go two minutes without blazing up a smoke. Luann won’t be filmed or photographed with a cigarette, I applaud her for that.
This upcoming season Luann has a new man in her life, he seems to be in it for the long haul as he was introduced briefly at the end of last season, we know little about him other than he’s a wine importer. His personality or character are yet to be revealed, I am fascinated to know more about this man who has chosen Luann de Lesseps as his girlfriend. Is he interested in building his business? Is he just enjoying a bit of a television appearance? How is he with Luann’s children and how do they feel about him? Is this a long term relationship, will this couple get married?
Luann appeared in a recent episode of Law and Order on NBC, I can only guess that since NBC is Bravo’s parent company this was forced on the people over on Law and Order as it would have aired around the same time as The Real Housewives of New York was originally scheduled to premier.
Luann told reporters that her boyfriend, Jacques Azoulay helped her to prepare or the scenes that she shot by running lines with her. Is he really just this great guy that supports his new girlfriend or does he have aspirations of stardom as well? What does he see in Luann de Lesseps? Does he enjoy her condescending, passive aggressive demeanor or is he turned on by her new snarky attitude? Does he just love the way he has to introduce her to the hired help as “Countess de Lesseps”, open doors for her and stay off his cell phone at dinner? Is he ready to become step-father to two teenage kids and a reality personality all at the same time? Who is this guy and is he crazy?
Based on the previews I don’t think I’m going to like Luann de Lesseps any better than I did last season, the way she speaks to Alex in some of the previews…well lets just say she gives Jill Zarin a run for her money. I just hope she gets rid of those damn brown boots she wore on every episode.
Does Luann’s new boyfriend look like Ross from “Friends”?
Thank you to our very own LavaLady for her story after attending Bethenny’s book signing:
I did attend Bethenny’s books signing last night at Bookends in Ridgewood, NJ. My sister and I got to the bookstore around 6:15. We were told to purchase the book, and then either wait in line outside or just browse around town and come back around 7:15. My sister took a peek at the line and it was about 30 people. Since it was raining pretty hard, we got something to eat and came back to the bookstore at 7. My sister wanted to purchase another copy if the book, so while she was on line, I noticed a store employee hovering near a back exit. I quickly assumed this was the door that Bethenny would be entering through and I was right. A few minutes later, Bethennny came in wearing a pure white down coat and gold shoes. A few minutes later Julie came in. She was wearing a black down coat and bright red shoes. I could not believe how high both their heels were. They were ushered right into the manager’s office, but you could hear them talking. Bethenny’s voice sounded just about the same, maybe just a little higher than on TV.
My sister and I then joined the line outside. There were probably about 200 people in line ahead of us. By now it was sleeting very, very hard. The line started moving right at 7:30, but only about 25 people at a time could enter. I would say we were on line for about an hour. It was pretty miserable, because of the sleet. We also had thunder and lightning. I was shocked that I saw no one give up and leave the line. I really expected that. When we were about to enter, I could see many, many people behind us, probably about another 200. I was also surprised to see many people with more than one copy of the book.
We entered and went into a downstairs area of the bookstore. There was still a line, but at least we were warm and dry. We could see Bethenny in the front standing at a table. She was very friendly to everyone. You could have a picture taken and get your book signed. Julie was also visible. I saw her pose with people for picures. But you could see she was working, she was all business. Nice and friendly, but definitely not there to only socialize. She is so, so pretty in person.
When we got to the head of the line, you could see that you were not really allowed much time with Bethenny. Just enough to sign the book, take a picture and say a few words. She had a beautiful red dress on, with bright red lipstick. Her hair was down, and slightly wavy. I surprised at how fit she looked, thin, yes, but not scrawny thin, but fit thin. Once in a while she would call something out to the crowd. Mostly about the horrible weather. She felt bad people were so cold and wet waiting to see her. I would say she was very efficient in moving people through. Polite, friendly, but you could tell this was not the time for chatting away, lingering, etc.
When our turn came, Bethenny right away saw we were twins and she asked us if we were best friends. She actually asked us twice. It was kind of nice. So we got our books signed, took a quick picture with my sister’s phone and exited.
We saw a store employee on our way out and asked if they thought Bethenny’s signing was successful. They say yes, absolutely. They figured about 500 people were there, with over 500 books sold. After we left, I would guess Bethenny would have had to stay at least another hour to get through everyone on the line.
I was surprised to see many young girls waiting to see Bethenny. Group of 3 or 4 girls either HS or college aged. Of course, there were people like me, age 50 or so, and also a few couples, and a splattering of single men. But I would say the crowd was mostly young women.
So that’s my story. I think it was definitely worth it. When I got home and took off my coat I realized my sweater and jeans were wet. Also, my wallet and money. And I was pretty chilled. But all in all it was worth it. Now I have to read the book.
Thanks for sharing that with us LavaLady, here is a video on the same Bethenny sighting…
Until Next Time…
