I Hate Jill Zarin Bethenny Ever After
Tonight’s episode revolved around Bethenny’s 40th Birthday party and opens with her meeting with Shawn the party planner to hear his ideas and taste some food for her party.
Shawn’s wacky ideas are all denied by Bethenny, they were a bit out there. Surely Shawn knew it was not Bethenny’s style.
Jason’s parents came into town to spend time with their granddaughter and to attend Bethenny’s birthday party. While the party was no surprise, the people who love her are trying to create small surprises for her in secret. Jason and Julie call Bethenny’s best friend in Florida and fly her in to come to the party to surprise Bethenny.
Jason’s parents get Gina in a bit of trouble when they tell Bethenny that they’re taking Bryn for a walk but Baby Nurse Gina arrives back home with the baby just 10-minutes later. Bethenny is clearly annoyed yet they briefly abandoned their granddaughter to prepare a surprise for Bethenny. Jason had purchased a dress form that Bethenny liked and Jason’s father restored it as a surprise for Bethenny.
Throughout all of this fun Birthday planning Bethenny found time to devote to her skating routine for Skating With The Stars. Along with her partner Ethan, they choreographed their routine and then lunch to talk about a few of the other contestants on the show.
Bethenny mentioned that she didn’t know who Vince Neil is, but I’m sure he could say the same thing about Bethenny. She called Rebecca Budig “that soap girl” and noted that she was aspiring to be a professional figure skater in her past. The two talked a bit about Sean Young and Jonny Moseley who they met in Los Angeles during a promotional photo shoot for the show.
Preparing for her 40th Birthday party was almost as traumatic as the party itself for Bethenny as she tried on several dresses but was unhappy with each choice. Bethenny found comfort hugging her dog Cookie for a few minutes in the back of her closet. She looked so vulnerable at that moment.
I thought that the talk Bethenny had with her make up artist really helped viewers to understand what Bethenny was going through. I completely understood, sometimes you just want to forget that it is your birthday, there is either a build up to it and that inevitable let down or it is completely forgotten making you feel even more depressed about the whole thing. I completely relate and never look forward to birthday’s.
Bethenny’s party was attended by Ramona and Alex along with their husbands. Ramona seemed to want to help, she could see that Bethenny was stressing about her birthday and tried to offer advice, Ramona Style. It didn’t really seem to relate to what Bethenny was going through but you have to give Ramona props for trying. Loved Ramona’s mini Turtle-Time dance…cute!
During the party Jason began to make a speech, this is where it all went downhill. The dress form that Jason’s father had restored was presented to Bethenny but it was covered with a photo cut out of Bethenny’s face and a Skinnygirl apron so you couldn’t really see the dress form at all. Jason explained that his father had lovingly restored it and Father in law got a big hug and a thank you from Bethenny.
Here’s where it got a bit strange, There was a brooch clipped to the apron that was apparently a gift from Jason’s parents, and there were diamond earrings in the apron pocket, a gift from Jason. How would she know that if he hadn’t told her? Already embarrassed Bethenny thought the presentation was over when Jason told her to look more closely at the pin on the apron and to look in the pocket. More embarrassment. Jason took complete blame, as he should but he meant well, oh and there was more.
Bethenny broke down crying and brought Jason into the bathroom in an attempt to apologize for her behavior, she felt that she let everyone down and had disappointed his family. It was obvious that the crowd enjoying the party couldn’t hear Bethenny’s mini-breakdown in the bathroom as we see them all continue to mix and mingle but because Bethenny is miked we can only hear her and Jason. It was over in minutes and the couple went back to their guests to enjoy the rest of the party.
The party seemed to be an overall success but as the Hoppy’s discussed it later back home, Jason realized that he wasn’t really listening to Bethenny when she tried to tell him about her birthday concerns, his heart was in the right place but this scene reminds us all that this couple are still newlyweds and don’t know everything about each other just yet.
Finally the best part of the show as this amazing family spent Bethenny’s birthday just the way that she wanted to, in bathing suits, sunglasses and soaking in a tub together. It was really cute to see them all together like that, even Cookie was sporting a pair of shades and joined them in the tub.
And over in Twitter world:
Poor Simon, he took offense to what Bethenny said about him liking to get bombed. I didn’t find it offensive, of course, I’m not Simon.
I think it was just Bethenny being Bethenny and saying exactly what is on her mind. She was nervous about her birthday party and I think she felt that casting Simon as the fun guy who likes to get drunk and have fun wasn’t a bad thing but Simon took it negatively. I personally think it is all an attempt to get more attention.
oh,so I like 2 get ‘bombed” do I, @Bethenny
?Those that live in glass houses ought never cast the first stone.Still I wish you a happy 40th!
@SimonVankempen: Twas a cheap shot which let’s face it is her MO. While I admire her success it shouldn’t come at the expense of others. #LookInTheMirror
Yet just an hour earlier, Simon was excited for us all to see him on Bethenny’s show:
A viewer tried to talk Simon down from his opposition to Bethenny’s comment saying it was just Bethenny trying to be funny, Simon responded to that comment this way:
@SimonVankempen W/@Bethenny there’s always an underlying message
@SimonVankempen: She said it an interview not to my face, so I saw it 1st time tonight.
*Side Note: Andy Cohen did confirm that he was at Bethenny’s birthday party, but obviously off screen.
I feel as though Simon is creating a big stink over nothing, if he claims that Bethenny’s “MO” is taking cheap shots, why was he at her party? Why does he and Alex appear on Bethenny’s show every chance they get? I have a feeling Simon’s days on Bethenny’s show are over. You know O-V-E-R.
Possibly it was over well before the show aired and Simon knew it so he is making Bethenny look like the bad guy. I get the feeling that the friendship between Alex and Bethenny is also over.
We’ve had a few hints over the past few months that Simon has shifted his loyalty from one side to another. I guess it is ok for Jill Zarin to tell the newspapers that Simon is a “falling down drunk” but if Bethenny says that Simon likes to get bombed at parties, she’s the bad guy.
It isn’t going to be easy for Simon to get fans to adjust to his new public stand against Bethenny. This is another great example where it would have been better for Simon to remain silent. Most fans would have taken Bethenny’s comment to mean that Simon likes to drink and have fun at parties. There isn’t anything wrong with that, Jill’s quote “falling down drunk” was much worse. Does Simon have a drinking problem? I wouldn’t have thought so until he made such a big deal about Bethenny’s comment, his drinking has come up more than once on Bravo, and he was clearly hammered at Bethenny’s wedding, but that is another blog altogether. Have Alex and Simon made a complete turn to the dark side?
@BravoAndy: I was at @Bethenny 40th bday party and it was NUTS. Find out what happened at 10!
I hope you guys are watching! I’m anxious to hear what you guys think. I know someone has to relate with me!
WHY AM I TORTURING MYSELF and watching this???as if my stomach wasn’t feeling terrible as it is!
Only 22 minutes until this torture is over.
I think Bethenny is being way too hard on herself, she wasn’t nearly as bad on the outside watching as she clearly felt on the inside.
I can already see the Bethenny haters ripping her apart for this episode but I didn’t think that it was nearly as bad as Bethenny thought it was, she is human after all and while she didn’t seem freaked out about the age of 40, she clearly still has issues when it comes to her parents but I think she’s working through them as best as she can.
