I Hate Jill Zarin Real Housewives of Orange County & WWHL Celebrity Apprentice
Andy Cohen makes his three wishes every Sunday night on Watch What Happens Live I have three wishes too:
1. I wish Jay Mohr would take over hosting Watch What Happens Live every week.
2. I wish Donn Gunvalson would take his wife Vicki and put her over his knee and spank her butt good!
3. I wish that Jay Mohr’s first guest on WWHL would be Gary Busey.
The Real Housewives of Orange County
Vicki Gunvalson is a hot mess! Bravo’s longest running housewife seems to be the only one who can watch herself living her life on television season after season and still not see what is wrong with her behavior.
Ever since we met Vicki in 2006 she has been a working woman and admired for her work ethic by fans of the show. Over the years it has changed from a woman who had a home office and was building her business to an obsession, she can’t see that this business has taken over her life and is ruining her relationships with her family.
Last season she insulted not only her cast mates but she insulted her fans by acting as if she is the only woman in the world who works as hard as she does. This season it has become the only thing in her life that she has any passion for, her family, in particular her husband have become a nuisance in her life. The divorce that Vicki is facing is clearly a result of her choices. Producers seem to have no choice but to film and air this woman working because that is all that she does.
The show opens with Vicki making a great decision, she is spending the day with her family out on a boat relaxing, her husband Donn, daughter Briana and son Michael board the boat and off they go. Soon we learn that Vicki brought along some of her employees and begins to discuss work. Vicki becomes annoyed with her husband when he laughs at a joke that her son made. Her perfect son isn’t in the doghouse for making the joke but her husband is for laughing at the joke.
Vicki’s face becomes a stone and what could have been a beautiful day with her family becomes a waste of time and money but worse, in Vicki’s mind it solidifies her decision to spend more time at work and less time with her family. Vicki says she is respected at work but not at home and with that she justifies the ridiculous amount of time she spends at work away from her family.
Vicki’s daughter Briana seems to have learned to enjoy herself despite her mother’s attempts to ruin the day. She works hard but is off work the next day so she has a few cocktails and is having a great time. Vicki doesn’t enjoy seeing her daughter having fun, instead she warns Briana of the alcoholic DNA that she was born with, Briana tells us that Vicki does this all the time. I can’t imagine why poor Briana wants to move away from her mother.
We learn that Vicki stays at her office until well after typical office hours and she tells us that she actually gets mad at midnight when she has to go home. This is not a well woman.
Donn visits her at the office and you would think that the man was a delivery guy who brought her the wrong sandwich, he was interrupting Vicki, she treats him as if he is dog poop on the bottom of her shoe. Vicki snaps at Donn that their dog cannot spend time at her office anymore, she shoves the dog’s things at Donn and turns her back on him.
Over the years We’ve watched Donn Gunvalson being kicked around and verbally abused by his wife. So many reports of Vicki’s cheating can’t all be false. He’s never so much as raised his voice on screen and always seems to forgive Vicki for the horrible treatment he has received at her hands.
It seemed last season as though she finally realized what an amazing husband she has and she planned a vow renewal and a beautiful vacation. All those years of putting him down on camera and putting her work ahead of her husband seemed to be behind them.
Something has gone very wrong and my theory is that Vicki has lost all respect for her husband because he has retired and is enjoying staying home and relaxing, Vicki is telling us that she has to work this hard to keep her house out of foreclosure. Vicki seems to view her husband’s lack of ambition as weakness. Is Donn just a lazy man who refuses to work and lives off of his wife’s hard work or has he worked hard his whole life and ready to enjoy retirement? Either way this marriage is doomed.
The most talked about scene in tonight’s episode has to be Vicki’s inappropriate spanking of her office manager. Vicki’s employee deserved a reprimand for leaving the office for lunch and not returning but a spanking is not the way to do it. If Vicki is going to run a business, she has a lot to learn about employee relations and human resource laws. When Vicki announced she was going to spank this girl, the employee gave a nervous laugh but that shaky grin turned to terror as Vicki got up out of her chair and walked toward her. The look on this poor girl’s face was horror as she realized Vicki was really going to hit her. Vicki apparently thought she could make it all ok by hugging her afterward and telling her it was “with love” that she hit her. What? I have a new found empathy for Vicki’s children and her employees.
Vicki’s employees all seem to be young, impressionable and inexperienced. Vicki has been described as a control freak and this seems to confirm that, there is no one there to question her behavior. Vicki would certainly not be able to treat a seasoned mature insurance agent the way she treated her office manager. Her staff is all made up of people right out of college, she describes herself as “Mama Bear”, calls her staff “family” and treats them like children. Anyone else see what she’s doing here?
Gretchen’s scenes tonight all revolved around her parents 40th wedding anniversary celebration. We’ve been watching her plan this for what feels like years but it turned out beautifully, Gretchen did a great job taking her parents on a journey of their past beginning with renting a Ford Mustang just like the one her mother used to own. Gretchen, Slade and the happy couple all went to the church where they were married and watched their wedding video then off to a winery to renew their vows. Gretchen thought of everything and her parents looked really happy.
Slade Smiley seemed to think that Gretchen planned this day for her parents yet was envisioning her own wedding to Slade but Gretchen tells us that she is still not ready to get married. Gretchen’s dad tells Slade that Gretchen shot off her foot while cleaning her gun and is reluctant to clean that gun again. Good analogy Mr. Rossi.
Peggy’s surgery went off without a hitch and her new breasts are all in the right place. Peggy’s surgeon tells her husband that they’re never going to be 100% symmetrical but Alexis assures us that her doctor would have been able to make the magic happen much better. Am I the only one who doesn’t care about Peggy? Maybe it is because she seems to be just another filler Housewife that Orange County hired because they were down to just four housewives. The revolving door of OC housewives has gotten old and tired.
I have absolutely no experience with breast enhancements but it seems to me that if Peggy’s husband could walk into an operating room and immediately notice that his wife’s breasts are two different sizes, it could be a problem. I get it if they are a tiny bit off but it must be easily noticeable, right? The surgeon insists that he has done his best. Okedoke!
Alexis is going to make a complete season out of the fact that Tamra and Vicki brought mace to her Botox party. Vicki has apologized and Alexis has accepted Vicki’s apology but Tamra’s text message explanation to Alexis wasn’t good enough and this is dragged out for another week. Gretchen explains that it is simply a matter of Tamra’s poor comedic timing. Get over it Alexis. Alexis is not interesting so she’s going to create drama over the mace thing. More to come on this next week…
Much of this episode was filled with Tamra’s trip to Spain with her boyfriend Eddie Judge. There are very brief moments when I want to like this couple, Tamra tells us that Eddie has traveled the world and wants to show her the world. Sweet, but Tamra manages to act like an ugly American visiting Europe, her vulgar mouth and constant references to sex make it difficult to watch. Add to that Eddie’s inability to keep his lips off Tamra’s lips for more than thirty seconds at a time and the entire Spain trip is painful to watch. Tamra is even seen pulling away from Eddie on a few occasions because the making out stuff just got to be too much!
The couple tried to recreate that famous scene in every romantic movie on the beach, the girl jumps into his arms and the guy picks up his bikini clad woman and spins her around, you all know the scene I’m talking about, but it turns out to be more of a “please don’t let me drop her” type of scene as Eddie loses his balance at one point.
Bravo shows us some of Tamra’s nasty low-class comments from the past as Tamra tells us that Eddie loves her for who she is and doesn’t try to change her. Maybe a little bit of change wouldn’t be the worst thing for Tamra, eh?
Next week Alexis will confront Tamra about the mace in her handbag and Tamra freaks out because her ex-husband learns of her trip to Spain.
Watch What Happens Live
Andy Cohen welcome’s comedian Jay Mohr and Orange County Housewife, Peggy Tanous. Some comedy is just what the clubhouse needed after the stench of Jill Zarin in that seat.
Jay Mohr was a breath of fresh air next to the stereotypical Orange County housewife sitting next to him, he was clearly holding back the dumb blonde jokes.
The game of the evening seemed fairly simply, Jay would describe women who have had breast implants and Peggy would guess their name. Simple, right? I’m not sure in what universe Peggy thinks that Charlie Sheen had breast implants but that was indeed her response to Jay’s clue. The frustration that poor Jay felt came through as Peggy just kept displaying her stupidity all evening.
A twitter friend pointed out that Andy said, “pleased to meet you” to Peggy at the beginning of the episode and wondered if Andy wasn’t a part of the process of choosing the new Housewives or if he was merely trying to make it seem as though he’d not met her yet. Andy did the same thing with the Beverly Hills Housewives when they first appeared on his show. Had they really filmed an entire season without Andy meeting these ladies?
Jay Mohr did a great reading of a small portion of Luann’s book while impersonating Christopher Walken and admits that the Housewife that scares him most is Vicki Gunvalson, funny stuff! He kept the show upbeat and entertaining, while guest Peggy Tanous’s comments seemed petty and childish in comparison. She made a big deal over Alexis’ suggestion that her doctor would have been a better choice to perform her breast enhancement surgery. If this is the worst thing Alexis does to Peggy, she should thank her lucky stars, has Peggy seen Jill Zarin in action?
Jay Mohr married to actress Nikki Cox best known for her role on Las Vegas seems to be the perfect guest to have on the show as they discuss breast enhancements. Jay’s wife likes to display her surgically enhanced breasts every chance she gets too.
The controversy surrounding the WWHL Poll from Thursday night continues. Jill Zarin lost that vote but now rumors are spreading that there was a problem with some of the votes cast by Sprint customers and that the voting was cut off after only 14 minutes. Worse, Rob Shuter of Popeater now reports that attorney’s have gotten involved, that would explain why Jill Zarin posted then deleted voting problems on her Facebook page. Really? Attorney’s involved over a fan poll on an after hours cable TV show? I wonder who brought in the attorneys?
Andy announced the new revised poll results on last night’s show, does it really matter? Jill lost and was bitter, she still lost but now has cast a shadow of doubt over all these silly poll results. Personally, I believe the original results.
Andy welcomes Sonja Morgan and David Arquette on Thursday night and Tamra Barney/Eddie Judge next Sunday night.
Celebrity Apprentice by Quincy
We are in the Trump Tower offices where Marlee Matlin is giving a gift of one million dollars to the Starky Hearing Foundation which provides services to the death and hard of hearing. Many deaf children will be helped by this donation. This is the largest donation to a charity in all of the seasons.
The team members meet with Mr. Trump outside in sunshine and 35 degrees to find that the sponsor of the next challenge is Australian Gold, a company that makes products for the skin and sun protection. Steven Hilbrink, his wife and the director of sales are there to help describe the challenge.
Melinda, the director, states that there will be a glass box 10’ by 10’. They will be judged on creativity, brand messaging, and making the area around the box a part of the presentation in order to engage the public.
La Toya Jackson is the team leader for ASAP, the women’s team. Mark McGrath is the team leader for Backbone, the men’s team.
Mr. Trump will donate $20,000 and Australian Gold will donate $20,000 to the charity of the manager of the winning team.
The men immediately decide their theme will be a pirates with treasure theme. They will hire beautiful women and they themselves will pretend to be pirates. They wish that Hope, from the women’s team could represent them because she is the Playmate of the Year.
La Toya assigns Nene and Marlee to the creative committee. They are to come up with suggestions for a theme. She will send Hope to get the props. Star will do the graphics. Nene tells us that La Toya did not assign herself to any task. When La Toya is presented with ideas for the theme, she does not make a decision. The suggested concepts are on the beach and a person getting a suntan while delivering newspapers.
Both teams meet with the executives of Australian Gold. They are told that they need to use the products, they are shown some photos of previous campaigns, and they are introduced to Sydney the Koala Bear, the symbol of the company. Gary Busey tells the wife of the owner that he is “aroused “by the products. She does not appreciate this and the male team members note her facial expression.
The men are enthusiastic about the pirate theme and they assign tasks. Lil John is to babysit Gary and to pick up pirate costumes and props. Lil John is unhappy. He says that he has to keep Gary out of the way of the other men so they can get the work done.
The ladies are getting palm trees, sand and will have painted models, male and female like the older ads shown to them by the executive. There will be banners with the product names and handouts. Star complains that LaToya has no understanding of a budget.
Both teams go to the glass box/construction site. The men give clear instructions that the box will be a damaged/beached ship and they beat boxes with chains to make them look old. La Toya confuses the construction workers and when her team arrives they have to paint and they are not happy. They still are unsure of the theme.
La Toya calls the women who have gone to Lowes to tell them to bring 125 bags of sand weighing 50 lbs per bag for a total of 6,000 lbs. Marlee and Nene think this is too much and they ask Hope to confirm the numbers with La Toya. La Toya wants 125 bags. Nene says that if we win, the men sucked. On the way to set up the presentation, La Toya changed the theme to snow and sand. Now, some of the women have to get snow when they could help with the set up. La Toya has refused to allow Hope, the Playmate of the Year to be the model. Hope offers and is rejected. La Toya wants Hope to help with the work.
The models are there for both teams. The Pirates have attractive young women and a 3 ft. tall male actor dressed as a pirate. He is carried to the site by team members. They have swords and make pirate sounds.
In addition to the gold painted models, Star Jones is there in a white fur coat as a part of the snow presentation. There are gold balloons and the products are placed on tables.
The women and men engage the public explaining the products and handing out free samples. When the executives arrive they have some experience promoting the product and she greets the executives.
There is a problem with Gary Busey. He corners the executives from Austrian Gold and makes a pitch for himself as a representative for their company. They do not appreciate this, but are polite. Mark McGrath, the team leader has a problem with Gary who will not leave the executives alone. Gary actually pushes the team leader. Finally, Gary is controlled and their presentation is completed.
La Toya tells the women that executives that the models are “Living the Gold.”
They return to the board room in Trump Towers to discuss their accomplishments. La Toya hopes they did well. Nene tells Mr. Trump that La Toya was not a good team leader. She tells La Toya that she is 50 years old and that she benefits from the family name, Jackson. Mr. Trump wonders why they did not use Hope as the model because using the Playmate of the Year for the product would be fantastic for Australian Gold.
Mark McGraff would have used Hope and he has a tattoo on his wrist that Mr. Trump does not like. Gary felt that they did a good job as pirates. Meat Loaf said they were outside of the box with the idea, “Treasure the moments, life is short.” Mark McGrath offers to be fired if the theme was a problem because it was his idea. The other men want Gary to be fired because they are sick of listening to him. They also tell Mr. Trump that Gary used the word “sexual” with the owner’s wife in the instructions session. Gary denies that he did that and he denies that he pitched himself as the spokesperson for the company.
The Australian Gold executives chose the women’s team as the winners of the challenge and La Toya’s charity, AIDS Project LA will receive $40,000. The executives did not like the Pirate Theme and they did not like Gary Busey pitching himself as spokesperson for their products. The men did not use Sydney, the koala either. The women dressed Nene in a koala suit. Their failure to use Hope as a model was discussed.
The women leave and after some discussion, Mark McGrath and Gary Busey come back into the board room to meet with Mr. Trump and his two children. Mark McGrath argues that Gary is a problem, but he had offered to be fired if the theme was the issue. The pirate theme was not acceptable to the Australian Gold executives so Mark McGraff was fired.
Mr. Trump admonishes Gary. He tells Gary that he has to shape up and to watch his mouth. Mr. Trump states that there were too many complaints.
Thank you Quincy! Great job! Lynn~
