I Hate Jill Zarin Book Sales Controversy August 1, 2010
You may or may not have heard but there was some Twitter talk over the past few days about which Housewife has sold more books than any other. I really never thought that there was any question. Bethenny has two New York Times bestselling books and they have both been on the NY Times list for several weeks.
The only housewife that has come close to Bethenny is Teresa Giudice whose book was also on the New York Time Bestseller list for 3 or 4 weeks. Impressive, but nowhere near the numbers of Bethenny’s sales with many weeks on the NYTB list, coupled with the fact that Bethenny’s books have been on the market substantially longer than Teresa’s book.
Then suddenly the other day, Rob Shuter shot off a tweet that started many people’s discussions and quite frankly arguments. Rob Shuter is a writer for Popeater.com and has appeared on some entertainments shows and done interviews about celebrities.
First let me say that unlike Perez Hilton, whom I detest, I don’t have anything against Rob Shuter, I did see him go after Alex and Simon a few times but he always seems to provide just enough of a backhanded compliment or apology to get away with it and come out smelling like a rose. For example, after the tweet heard round Amazon, Rob said that the really liked Bethenny thus repairing some of the damage immediately. (He is a smart guy)

Based on the fact that Bethenny has 2 books out and they have both been out longer than Teresa’s 1 book and that both of Bethenny’s books have had 2 months in the last 4 that have sold over 1,500 books and Teresa only has one book out and that book has only had one month in the last 4 that has sold over 1,500 books I’d say that hands down Bethenny has sold more books. I love Bethenny’s book The Skinnygirl DIsh so I’m very happy to see this. Good for you Bethenny. Keep giving us great stuff to help us live a healthy life style.
Rob normally I really enjoy your post and find great humor in them but fact checking is important when it comes to someone’s reputation.

Publishing is a funny beast: book sales deal with numbers and as soon as you start throwing Mathematics into the equation, the LIT freaks freak out. So, to think there is a man or woman out there with a clipboard that holds the end-all-be-all rankings for literature, is an overstated utopia that doesn’t exist. The New York Times doesn’t publish its Formula for a Successful Bestseller. The game changes all the time. The retail sampling differs every month, meaning that the stores asked for their top picks that month aren’t re-queried the subsequent month. The NYT pools together those recommendations along with Bookscan point-of-sale data and editorial opinion to determine each week’s bestselling book. Hyperion is the publishing company for Disney-ABC-TV Group. As a comparison, some of Hyperion’s top authors are Cecily von Ziegesar (think Gossip Girl) and Richard Castle (think ABC’s Castle show). Hyperion is a money-making machine with many strong arms in the industry. Heather Maclean is a New York Times bestselling author and a sub-par reality TV star herself. The team behind Skinny Italian sounds like a street-fighting team of bookselling ninjas. To hear powerful PR for the benefit of Skinny Italian doesn’t surprise anyone. Don’t be surprised when Teresa is invited on Emeril Lagasse’s show either.

Many editors and writers touch these books before they ever see the light of day. Bethenny also has a major publishing house behind her. Simon & Schuster is among the Top Five publishing houses in America. Fireside is her imprint. Fireside is also Kelly Cutrone’s imprint. Kelly’s book, too, became a New York Times bestseller. Bethenny is one of Simon & Schuster’s top authors. Simon & Schuster is located within Rockefeller Center and is super-close to NBC studios. The partnership isn’t jaw-dropping.

I don’t think that there is any question who sold the most books! No matter how you look at the numbers or try to twist the math, Bethenny has sold more books. As her books have been out on the market and available substantially longer than Teresa’s, it is also not surprising.
In the end, who really cares who sold more books. I just had to call Rob out because he didn’t provide any proof for his statement. Possibly just the simple fact that Bethenny has two books and they’ve both been on the market much longer than Teresa’s one book could be why Bethenny has sold more.
Teresa has certainly made a good run at selling books, her personal appearances have all be successful and there is no doubt that people are buying her book. If Teresa wants to put a public statement out there, she could, with all confidence say that she’s sold more books than, Jill Zarin. No one would question that. She could announce she’s sold more than Luann or NeNe, which would be believable. I’d bet she could even comfortably say she sold more than Kelly, who has three books on the market. But I’m not buying that Teresa has sold more than Bethenny.

All stats and numbers you see here were not compiled by me, they’re all re-printed from other sources, blogs, tweets and articles. They all say the same thing, Bethenny sold more books, period!
Teresa has also started a rumor that she is being considered for Dancing With The Stars. She used the old trick of basically wishing it to make it happen.
Her tweeting that SHE was considering going on Dancing With The Stars was a bit of a stretch since DWTS hasn’t invited her yet, however, this was very smart PR because now even People Magazine has picked up the “rumor” and began a poll to see what fans think about her appearing on the show. This People.com poll could certainly catch the attention of the casting people at Dancing With The Stars and make Teresa’s fantasy tweet come true. It is one of those “oldest tricks in the book” and the Twitter world of Teresa’s fans fell right into her trap and helped her take this dream of hers one step further.
Just to infuriate some of us further, Teresa added a tweet asking fans who they thought she should “make them” give her as a professional dancing partner on Dancing With The Stars. Wow, this chick has a big head, everyone knows that professional dancing partners on DWTS are assigned based on height/size and they try to match them as best they can. Teresa inferring that she was going to be able to choose whether or not to appear, first of all, then to add that she would be “making them” give her the partner she wants is beyond obnoxious! It is also typical, low class, tacky Teresa!
I wonder if Teresa has considered the amount of time she would have to spend on the West Coast if she were invited to be on Dancing With The Stars. Her claim that she has no help with the children would certainly come to light. We all know that her parents help her to care for her four bright, rambunctious brood. What about Juicy Joe? Others have done it, even Kate Gosslin who has 8 children but she took a whole lot of trashing in the public for leaving her children for so many days and hours. But we’re getting ahead of ourselves, I’m still hoping and praying that this never happens. I actually used to enjoy Dancing With The Stars but would never watch it if Teresa Giudice were on it.
So Teresa fans, Teresa duped you all when you bought her cookbook and she admitted on National Television that she uses store bought pizza dough. Similar to Jill Zarin trying to dupe fans into buying her book by writing her very own review (including talking about her late mother). Teresa also told us that her house wasn’t in foreclosure, she forgot to mention that she filed bankruptcy, lied on the filing, is losing all of her belongings, continues to spend a fortune on unnecessary parties and jewelry, not to mention ATV for her daughter and thousands in clothes.
I remember seeing Bethenny in an interview once saying that DWTS is one of the few reality shows she would consider doing. She had said that there were concerns about appearing on too many reality shows but that DWTS did appeal to her. I would hope that if DWTS casting were considering any of the housewives, it would be Bethenny. The Los Angeles location could actually be a plus for the Hoppy family as we did see Jason and Bethenny discussing the possibility of moving to LA, so this could be a great test. A temporary move out to LA to see if it is a good fit for the Hoppy’s could be just the ticket!
Bethenny is one of the few housewives who could actually hold her own on DWTS, she’s not star-struck, she’s well known and well liked. Someone like Teresa on DWTS would be a complete joke and would certainly bring the quality of the show into the toilet, not that it hasn’t gone there before. I would imagine that having Teresa on the show may even deter other “real” stars from appearing in a group with Teresa.
Teresa is doing all of this to stay relevant, to stay in the “headlines” so to speak, people are talking about her and that is all she cares about.

I would love to see Ramona on DWTS. She loves to dance and I think she would be fun to watch.
She’s in shape, too. Even at 52, I’m guessing she could handle the grueling demands that come with being a dancer so long as she can remain injury free.

I went to Barnes and Noble last week and they had 4 copies of Teresa’s book sitting on the shelves so I read some of the recipes. She has 4 recipes for Pizza uses the same doe but changes the toppings. Once I saw that, I wasn’t interested in buying the book. Now that I also know she buys the doe at the store. She is shameless. Oh let me clear this up, I wasn’t at B&N to buy her book.
I do have a problem with Jill Zarin still pushing a book that she couldn’t give away if she stood on a NYC corner naked and giving away free coffee! Give it up Jill, your book sucks. You should offer refunds for selling crap to poor unsuspecting fools.

Our tiny Borders in our tiny “mall” had 9 books three week ago. They had nine books on Friday. The clerk told me that none have sold. How many Teresa sagas are on the shelves gathering dust?
You know what I find extra funny about the whole pizza dough thing? We actually saw Danielle making pizza from scratch in the first season. But, here is Teresa with a cook book and its obvious that she doesn’t know how to make pizza dough or even work with it if what we saw at Joe’s place was any indication.

Re: DWThe Stars- i haven’t watched this show since ab0ut 4 seasons ago just because it got too campy for me, however, Bethenny would be very ~successful~ on it, not only due to her fans, but also for the fact that she has mad rhythm. She would excel if she were on this show.

Kim Z would be so awesome on DWTS because she has NO rhythm! Anytime she attempted to dance to her song on the show she would do nothing, like Whitney Houston. She has got nothing on B. She would be like Kate G but worse.

I checked out Teresa’s website today & it looks like she’s taken a page from Jill Zarin’s book, she calls herself the “star” of NJ Housewives. She also has a blurb about being the best-selling author out of all-of the HW.

I don’t know how much I trust the Novelrank numbers, they always look low to me, (and I know they get them from Amazon somehow), but I have noticed that since this started, Teresa’s book has dropped like a stone in the best-seller cooking category on Amazon. I watched it go from 16 to 31, while Bethenny’s has been pretty stable in the top 5 or so.
Why are people so upset about the claim that Teresa sold more books? I don’t get it. I think some of all this Real Housewives stuff is going too far.b Just because she said it doesn’t make it so and at the end of the day who cares what she or anyone else claims about their books? I am sure Bethanny doesn’t care one bit. I was actually going to buy Teresa’s book but then the bankruptcy thing came out and I thought, oh hell nah! I just don’t see why it matters. Without looking at the numbers, it is obvious Bethanny probably sold more on the sheer nature that she has more books and has been out longer and is fairly popular. They each have books that are doing fairly well. Such is life.
I pray Bethanny does not go on DWTS. She did the Apprentice, The Real Housewives and now BGM which I am sure will have another season and then maybe another. I think that is enough reality TV. It has served its purpose for her and too much is just too much. I love pizza but I can’t eat it every day even as much as I think I would like it. Eventually I would get tired of eating something that I used to love. Bethanny need not go on any other reality show.

HD, I also hope that Bethenny’s next new tv venture will be outside of the “reality” genre and more informational (like the talk show or cooking show we’ve discussed here before). Fingers crossed!
BTW, the claim that Teresa has sold the most books wouldn’t bother me at all if (a) she really had sold the most books, or (b) she hadn’t already insulted the viewers’ intelligence by misrepresenting her lifestyle, her finances – no one likes to be fed hogwash from the same source over and over, makes you wanna call bullshit!

I watched Mary J. Blige launch her new perfume, (parfum?) on Home Shopping yesterday, and I’d love to see Bethenny do something like that.
I was actually surprised about how nice they were to her all day long, although I was put-off by the exclusive deal because I want to at least see what the stuff smells like before I spend 70 buks on it.
Maybe if she had a Forman Grill or something like that to sell with recipes?

Reminds me so much of all the lawsuits coming out of the Anna Nicole Smith case. There were (and still counting) something like 40?
Two lawsuits that arose from the ANS case had to do with web site bloggers and defamatory statements by the site hosts and in a few cases, the site posters themselves.
Background on the above: Howard Stern’s sister and her “possee” of posters inundated certain sites with comments against ANS’s mother, Virgie Arthur, thus the law suit.
Virgie won in that Howard’s sister and others came to a settement.
It’s a good case as a rule of thumb in being carefully what one posts on sites. Use certain words and phrases, i.e., “I heard on …… or I heard…… said” rather than making a statement that is not a fact.

Re: my last post about posters being sued – the good news for posters not being afraid to post is this:
In those ANS cases, after much haggling and such, eventually all posters who had posted negatively about Virgie Arthur were let off the hook because “they weren’t involved in a conspiracy”.
Stern’s sister and her “possee” members, however were still included in the suit because they were together as one under the terms of “a conspiracy of defamation against Virgie”.
Another defining characteristic of the conspirators was that they jumped from site to site, including TMZ sites and would spread lies, innuendos and basically created guerella warfare between other posters to further their cause of defaming Virgie.
Tho I haven’t read anything about Lynn Hudson herself or visited any sites she and fans hang at, it has been alluded to here that there could be some similarities between her and Bonnie Stern’s tactics.
I’d like to visit her and her possee’s comments to see if I recognize anyone’s moniker from the old ANS sites.
Who can tell me where to visit to view their comments?
Poor Sven would be disappointed to discover this site is loaded with snark and humor, but nothing else that can be considered lies. That is one reason so many are drawn to this blog. Oops, should have posted. She registered 120 but that was WITH her jogging outfit on and phone in her hand (!), so she is actually lower. I don’t know her height. Her daughter towers over her and is about 5.9″??
Danielle Staub is 5’6″ and she towers over Jacqueline by inches. I am going to look at some photos and then come back with some body fat percentages. I’ve been “into” those online charts and calulators in Dec. 15, 2009 when I sent myself to grandma bootcamp and started working out with a trainer. BTW, you can come back. It’s harder when you are older, but you feel so much better running up the stairs when you do it for even a few weeks.
Well, Jacqueline’s height is plastured all over the net. She’s says she’s 5’4″. The funny thing is Caroline lost weight and she states she is 5″1. If you look at photos, Jacqueline is closer to Caroline’s height than she is Danielle’s. The all are wearing bone numbing heels that look about the same height. Teresa states that she like to work with weight to be toned. Ummmm in that store in Atlantic City, she told Dina that she never exercises. I guess times have changed.
120 lbs for 5’4″ is the lower side of normal.
Bethenny was 115lbs at 5’6″ for the Peta shoot. She’s now 120 and nursing.

Well Teresa should certainly NOT be given a slot on Dancing, it would infuriate me too. And to answer your question about what about the kids, Lynn, she had that separate tweet about “only if I can bring my kids” meaning she would expect the show to foot the bill for all the Guidices to go to Cali. She is probably thinking about Gia in LA would be great for her “acting career” and would have the kid go out on auditions while she is there. And if there is an EMPTY house back in NJ (cough, cough) then they would most definitely want to be out of town for a couple of months. Again it would sicken me that she would even be considered, she is a grifter, fake author, and is facing bankruptcy charges and tons of unpaid debts.

Well, she looked great. The white line in her hair was a little distracting, but it detracted from her forehead so that’s good.

I believe the the rental buildings were the million dollar problem. I had a friend whose husband was a lawyer with real estate all over the Midwest just like that. He died, she didn’t know about all of the properties so she didn’ t pay all of the mortgages. She lost everything including her home and jewelry. It was a financial tsunami.
Teresa and Joe were living high on the hog in good times. All it took was the irresponsibility of Congress, banking and financial industry failures, and exporting millions of jobs to China to bring down a lot of people who were riding the tide of the 90’s.
Still …I don’t like Teresa as a person.

I think they razzled Teresa with their questions concerning her bankruptcy. Maybe she thought she was there to plug her book, but Joy and Bryant had other ideas. Joy calling Greasy Joe a slumlord was awesome 🙂 Mario asking if she was living within her means was good. But when she told Bryant not to believe the 11million dollar figure, is she insane? It is a well documented amount, on financial bankruptcy documents and still she’s lying. She is now blaming the haters and tenants failing to pay rent for the bankruptcy. No mention of the fraud allegations by the former partner, or the contractors they stiffed while building the McCheeseyGreasyMansion. Once again she coyly stated she was unable to comment on DWTS. AS IF! If she gets a grassroots petition started by her over zealous fans and actually gets on… :(*sigh*) it’ll be a sad day for dancers everywhere. @Kats – last I heard, it was a mini stroke and she’s got weeks of rehab. She might be spending alot of time with her at rehab. I’ve been through that with a friend of mine, it’s a difficult time. Thankfully, my friend did very well. Hopefully EMT will be just as lucky. My prayers have been with her.

Two things that she probably was told to say and most likely memorized. They kept interrupting her and she was getting all confused. LOL It was like throwing a pretend ball to a dog.

Bryant Gumbel pointed out that Joe turned off the heat and lights. Bryant and Joy Behar were laughing in her face, but she never noticed, she was too busy trying to blame Joe’s business partner, when blaming the tenants didn’t work. She claimed to not know they were in financial trouble. Teresa looked like a deer in headlights. They pointed out that ugly ring Joe gave her for the anniversary. I think it is the ultimate cop out for her to say she knew nothing of their finances going downhill. Bullshit! While some may keep their finances separate in marriages, even though she wasn’t the primary breadwinner, she was aware of what was and wasn’t coming in. You don’t go from charging on credit cards and opening lines of credit at furniture stores, to paying everything cash. Not just clothes or a few grand in furniture at Roomstogo but 120k in cash at a local faux Euro-trash furniture store?

She knew he scammed the extra money and gave her some for the furniture. She ran up her credit card bills never intending on paying it off. But alas, the cameras pick up everything. We saw her charge thousands and pay hundreds of thousands. Now she said on the view, Joe’s ex partner is watching the tv show and complaining making the bankruptcy proceedings more difficult. Rightfully so. They are claiming poverty (somewhat) yet seen spending like drunken sailors on leave! They should be denied protection and made to pay every cent.

Great blog today Lynn! The whole “book wars” is lost on me – Teresa always says things that are not true/usually easy to prove whether it is true or false/ and makes statements that are manipulatively wishful thinking at best (DWTS). Most people page through, read the notes on the jacket, read other people’s reviews – before they purchase! Most folks buy books they are interested in (author, a series, content) but Teresa, like Jill, tries too hard to get people to purchase their offerings based not on content but on their perceived “celebratty” status!

You have no idea about publishing. Amazon rankings mean nothing. Amazon doesn’t report per book sales to NYT list or their own rankings, only 1 per order, so the rankings are skewed. So if you buy 4 of 1 book — like for gifts–Amazon only counts it once. I think T’s book is more likely to get multiple orders than Bs. Both of these nitwits blame their spending habits on their husbands?! IMO they spent what they pleased and when there was no money to pay the bills they continued to spend in new and creative ways. When the money trained dried up was when they talked to their spouses and found out their spending days were ovah! None of them have an excuse that is acceptable!
It’s more than just spending habits. And in Lynn’s case more than just her. Teresa makes Lynn look like a miser by comparison. I mean, it’s not like the Curtains were living in a custom made Petit Trianon wannabe with (faux) marble up the wazoo. I may be wrong since OC isn’t one of my favs, didn’t Lynn’s husband buy one of the daughters a new car? I don’t think they were (comparatively) all that well off to begin with, so it didn’t take much to rock that boat and her hubby was trying to keep up appearances…it wasn’t just her. And IIRC Lynn said she she should have been involved in the finances like an adult and taken responsibility, which is more than T will ever say.
In the Gs’ case, there appears to be a lot of stuff with property, business deals, taking out loans, and more loans, buying more property, etc. Their finances seem to appear a bit more complicated on paper than T’s “the bad economy hurt Juicy’s bidness and then the renters wouldn’t pay their rent and so they stiffed poor Juicy although he didn’t pay the utilities so they were living in the dark like in a slum but that wasn’t his fault, and then his partner the bastard sued to get his lousy $286K back and so it’s all their fault and we’re just the victims of the economy just like so many others, boo hoo.” I don’t think the Gs’ were always dealing in cash because they had a distrust of banks…

T said the ex-biz partner is calling the bankruptcy trustee every day, and that is why it is costing them money due to her role on RHONJ. I say, good for him. Do whatever it takes to expose these frauds and get what is owed.

Regardless of his own past, I can’t believe he’d sue Joe if he didn’t have a legit claim. Guess the back room negotiations didn’t go well. At least no gun fire was exchanged.

Joe’s business partner isn’t exactly ethical either – but he wants his money and he wants the trustee to know that (since it could get lost in the $11 million debt). What I don’t understand is how or why anyone would 1)allow anyone to sign their signature on a document and 2) how any lending institution would allow that without a power of attorney, etc!

They filed certain things in their bankruptsy petition – now other things are coming to light that were not claimed and Teresa doesn’t get it – they have to pay whatever portions of the debt the trustee says and that their current and future income is what will pay it!

They are in bankruptsy – they have a trustee, who is ordering payment. We don’t know if it is Chap 7 or if they got kicked into Chap 13 at this point. What makes this interesting is that the trustee has filed a suit stating they lied about income and assets (normal people don’t hide either). The Guidice’s attorney is trying to get things taken off the table and the trustee is not going there – seems that Teresa wants to keep things/buy things back but the bottomline is satisfying the debt. So now money is coming out of the woodwork to satisfy her materialistic needs…… Question is do they have $11 million in income/assets to satisfy their debt??? And if so, why didn’t they just pay for what they purchased in the first place and avoid bankruptsy (this one is easy, they thought they could get out of paying their debt by filing but that isn’t what is happening!).

I’m not a Teresa fan but by no stretch am I a hater of any of these women…it is after all only a tv show & as interesting as it is to read everyone’s observations, it’s only that ; we do not know them or their circumstances personally. Although its obvious now that they lived well above their means & were irresponsible to say the least & yes this type of behavior incurring HUGE debit contributed greatly to the recession we are in (as much as Wall St. greed did & Bush did pushing deregulation, tax cuts for the top 1% & keeping trillions aka/the cost of Iraq off the books-things we should have been concerned with rather than RHONJ) ), BUT I do feel that she is doing what she needs to do by making tanning commercials, etc; she still has to make money to feed her family & no mother should be criticized for earning a living for her kids. Anyway, my opinion.
No she is not doing what she needs to do and I don’t know how anyone can say she’s doing what she needs to do for her family. It’s not just all about the money. The first thing Teresa and Joe need to do for the sake of their family and specifically their daughters is admit they were wrong. The second thing that needs to happen is they need to correct the way they have raised their daughters and teach them that material things are nice when you can afford them, but there is more to life and a strong honest work ethic is what allows you to buy things you can afford. You don’t take from others and no one is “too pretty to work”.
Teresa and Joe are criminals. I know what I have watched on the show, read on the blogs and what the court papers state. I’m sick of the excuses and feel they should be locked up or at the very least kicked out of that stupid house to start living a life they can afford.
Yes, they need to admit they were wrong & set an example for their children, but I doubt the will say they were wrong publicly & especially since lawyers & the courts are involved. My point was for those criticizing her for wanting to go on Dancing & the Tanning gig; she needs to feed her family, that’s all…not that they were correct in incurring huge debit.
I hear ya, but I look at these other gigs as a prize for the fame-ho that she is. If there is proof the paychecks are getting turned over to the people she owes that’s one thing, but I doubt that’s the case. @kats, you hit the nail on the head. All her attorney keeps talking about regarding the book is that the deal was signed AFTER filing for bankruptcy, so the profits don’t go toward their debts. That is a big reason why they are trying to challenge whether or not they are able to file for Chapter 7.
She’s not using anu of this money to pay off previous debts. It’s to continue the lifestyle they have now, nothing more, nothing less. She’s disgusting on so many levels, what is she teaching those children?

FYI Joy, we nearly had a depression, the middle class were hit hard; if you lose your job sometimes it’s hard to come up with the rent. No legit business person would grab the cash and go. Just like honest folk keep an emergency fund, that rent money should always have been put in an account to keep the places running. You can draw off the profit via salary or stipend, but any intelligent person would not deplete it, just because they could.
The risk of losing your livelihood via the buildings themselves is too great for any law abiding entrepreneur.

Keeping children off a reality show is sound advice. Showing a baby is one thing, having your children actively participate is another. RHONY shows the kids from time to time but they are never really a part of the storyline. Avery being asked to be Ramona’s MOH was probably the most we saw of a NY housewife’s child all last season. The more I read her tweets and watch her on TV the more I can’t stand her. I think she’s a horrible mother. She’d gives the tweeter world more of her attention than she does her 2 boys.

Proof of where Ashley gets it from. That kind of lack of control with total strangers is dangerous. She could just block people, she doesn’t have to engage or talk to them. I don’t get how her husband puts up with it.
We have all said this before – This cast is dangerous to themselves and their families. The way they act and conduct themselves with these strangers who follow them is very scary and it’s not going to end well.
Lack of control is so true. Jacqueline, on a recent episode, was walking behind Ashley and she hit her. She hit Ashley last year in the photo shoot. Do we wonder why Ashley is not bothered when she pulled Danielle’s hair? Ashley is used to this kind of treatment and it’s no big deal to her.

I can believe that Teresa didn’t know the extent of their debt. Because she didn’t want to know. That’s no excuse. It would be difficult to know all of a spouses business dealings but when you are signing your name to something you’d better find out as much as you can about the document you’re signing. And she knew she was spending enormous sums of money. How about asking “can we really afford this right now?”
In spite of how much I dislike Teresa I think it was incredibly rude of Joy Behar to call her husband Greasy Joe. Teresa was a guest on her show. It’s fine to ask the tough questions but you should always show respect to a guest in your home. Even if that home is a studio set.

There’s a clip of her being interviewed backstage before the program. The ring she was wearing wasn’t the same ring Joe gave her. She said that that ring was at home, it isn’t the Hope Diamond, and it was what Joe could afford.
IMO – these women, especially Teresa, lie about their lives because in reality they know they will never achieve either real wealth or success (as judged by a standard that requires higher education, professional careers, financial saavy, etc). So passing fake for real anything is exceptable behavior for them. Their world is very small and allowing them out in the larger arena just makes their fantasy world all the more sad to watch.
The fake jewelry, furs, faux antique furniture, expensive cars, McMansions – they need those to validate their lives and make them feel like they are wealthy……THEY just don’t GET IT that the majority of people see right through the farce!

Thanks for all the great updates about The View-I had bad insomnia so I was sleeping when it was on today. I don’t dare watch videos on my computer, but I would like to see what she was wearing.
I thought she was going to co-host like Bethenny did, but she was a guest.
And I still maintain that Behenny sold more books than her! Does anyone recall if she mentioned anything about that?
She looked under dressed – bandeau top dress (black and white top with white bottom) and I swear her nipple area was starting to show towards the end of the grilling session. She looked dressed for the beach not a tv show. She sounded confused, she definately used her indoor voice and there was very little smiling or love at the table today! I would give her a D (she showed up so I can’t give her an F) in performance.
I thought she looked awful. Her face is just not pretty at all. And I’m not being mean just to mean, I just don’t think she has nice facial features.

I don’t know who sold more books at this point in time. But I don’t think it matters. Teresa’s book is a novelty item. It will sell only as long as RHONJ is on TV and Teresa has some fame/notoriety. The Housewives franchise is hot right now but I think it’s burning out.
Skinnygirl is a brand that stands on it’s outside of RHONY. Bethenny’s products will continue to sell after the Housewives franchise is gone.
IF Teresa has sold more books than Bethenny so far, which I doubt, she better enjoy it while it lasts. Check back in 6 months or a year. Amazon probably won’t even be carrying Skinny Italian but I bet Skinnygirl will still be selling.
Just watched the View Or should I say Ouew ! Which was the attitude towards Teresa or YUCK! Anyway when asked about DWTS Trashy said “I can’t comment,” because she HAS Nothing to say about NO INVITATION ! DWTS doesn’t have SECRET invitations ! Trashy is going to get caught in another lie. BUT I did think Tacky looked very pretty.
Her big mistake was repeatedly saying defensively “I have always lived with in my means.”
Trashy totally blamed her renters for not paying their rent. Joy asked her if her husband was a slum lord & Trashy said “No our buildings are in East Orange.”
Its sad Teresa kept referring to all the buildings as “our” like she doesn’t get that they aren’t “ours” anymore.
Unfortunately Teresa showed not one drop of humility. Sadly I don’t think the future holds much hope for Juicy & Trashy.

If T and J had section 8 tenants, then if the tenant’s income goes down section 8 pays more of the rent. If the tenants were getting section 8, the property needs to be maintained up to standards. If not, the property loses section 8 eligibility.
I am thinking that no utilities would cause section 8 to be lost and that could explain the lose of rental income.
Not to mention the fact that section 8 housing rent gets paid directly to the landlord. It does not pass through the hands of the recipient.

I feel a teensy weensy bit bad for Teresa. It appears to me that Juicy Joe did coach her for The View and obviouy it went badly. Teresa, OC Lynne, and NeNe are all married to men who are “hustlers”. They all dabble in real estate/construction where financial speculation is the rule. You borrow, invest, and hopefully sell high. These women are used to the highs and lows and expect their hubbies to make things work when they are experiencing a low. Both Teresa’s husband and Lynn’s found the hole too deep this time around and didn’t know how to tell the wife they were in trouble. Teresa kept spending because that’s what she is accustomed to and expected Joe would hustle like always until the economy turned around. There ARE still women out there that expect their husband to rescue them while they act like damsels in distress. I know people like them, the Guidices, Curtins, and Leakes. Teresa’s dirt got put on t.v., she should have done like Dina and quietly backed away. Joe knew and basically patted Teresa on the head like the child she is.
Juicy coach T? Dumb and Dumber? No way….he’s even less coherent that she is.
PR people & attorneys have told her what to say. She has a public story and that’s what they’re selling. It’s lame but likely sounds much better than the actual reality, or so one might suspect. Wonder if the IRS really is sniffing around as reported.
When Bryant Gumbel was questioning Teresa about money and asked her about building a 10,000 sq ft home. Teresa said, no we added on to our home. What part is her old house? I didn’t think there was a house on that property before.
My understanding is that house was built from the ground up. But I was trying to remember from S1, did we ever see where she lived before? When did this current house get introduced? I can’t remember, does any one out there know?
We saw her furnishing the new house in S1. They even bought beds for the kids. If they just added on to the house where were they sleeping? On the marble floors?
Could where they were living before be where the Grandparents are living now? It looks like they have enough land to have a smaller house on the same property. There’s obviously more to the story and maybe Laura will be able to see for herself on the 22nd 🙂

Google Earth shows a pic of a home that is not what exists now. Perhaps they bought the land, left up one wall for tax purposes and rebuilt around that.
Google Earth still has a 3 yr old photo of my house. They don’t update often. They are still trying to span the globe.

One of our real NJ housewives explained about the loop hole of leaving one wall from the previous house standing so as to undervalue what is built and also pay less taxes. Guess that is rerenovating Jersey style!
They did build the house from scratch technically. But building a house from scratch and adding onto an existing home affects mortgages or taxes (I forget which) differently. So people sometimes pull little scams and claim a house as an addition instead of a whole new house. Under the law you can have as little as one wall of the original structure still standing in order for your new mansion to be considered an “addition”. I’m sure they did something like that with their home and that’s why she has to say “addition” on tv. Judging by the odd boxy shape of the house I assume they built it over an existing foundation. I assume that’s why the garage is on the front of the house.

The one thing Teresa doesn’t have is common sense. With 99% of what she purchases for her children and home is not necessary and/or should cost alot less – when you scale it down to their “annual income” of $79,000…..
If they made their money and invested in risky ways – then the fall was more likely than not to happen. Their continued claims of relatives assisting them with money and now some of the “antiques” in their bankruptsy “really” belong to relatives…..will blow up soon enough as well. Maybe they can all be put in the same cellblock…one big happy family!

She knew she was being ridiculed. Imo, you could see it on her face and in her body language. Plus, I think she’s used to be treated as ridiculous – she knows it when she sees/hears it. But, she was not smart enough to respond and react with either truthful regret or self-depreciating humor (either of which would have changed the tempo and worked in her favor). When Danielle ridiculed her for bragging about the $5 million Giudice McMansion, Teresa reacted with animal-like defensiveness (just like the moronic table flip). In today’s interview, it looked to me like she really wanted to explode, but she was trapped. I think Teresa believes that very small minority of people who know her and continually tell her she’s funny and cute; she thinks the sun shines out of her butt and she’s untouchable. I suspect reality will be bitch slapping her in the face harder and harder for the next few months. She opened the door to extensive scrutiny of herself and her family, and I wouldn’t be surprised if the current situation is just the tip of the iceberg. She was well aware of their financial woes and the document forgery, imo. But, she simply can’t believe that everyone’s not looking the other way, because after all, she’s so nice, funny and cute. She is the stupidest public figure I’ve seen in years..

Andy Cohen has treated her with kid gloves, and now she is out trying to play with the big boys and she got what she deserved. You’re right. She thinks the sun shines out her rear, and that everyone who says something bad about her can just be boxed into the category of “hater.” There isn’t anyone with a legitimate criticism of her. I think that Joy is just in the role of housewife curmudgeon. I don’t regularly watch the show, but caught the Bethenny and Teresa segments. It seem to me like she treated Bethenny and Teresa evenly. And by evenly I mean she was bitchy to both. I suppose I’d rather see that than her being mean to one or the other.
Joys even treatment just made the differences more glaring. Bethenny is so much classier and has the ability to be self-deprecating, while Teresa just squirmed uncomfortably and blamed everyone but the family dog for her predicament.

Got NJ reruns on and in the scene right before Ashley’s hair raising scene – she is two people away from her mom and they clearly saw each other! Right after Ashley pulls Danielle’s hair and exits stage right – Teresa is there forcing her daughter back in the front doors of the building! They should all go to jail on charges of bad acting and committing audience fraudulant behavior.

Was intrigued by the Section 8 thread so I called a friend who manages a Section 8 Apartment complex. Tenants must qualify for Section 8 assistance before they are leased an apartment. The “rent” goes straight to the managing company, the tenants never see it. There are also many requirements that have to be met on the owner’s part to qualify and maintain Section 8 status – apartments have to have heat, hot and cold running water, electricity/gas……all must be in working order! SO if Joe & Company were not maintaining the buildings and supplying the utilitites then they would not be getting “rent” monies from the government…..so if in fact the property Teresa was talking about in East Orange were Section 8 buildings it was the government not the tenants who were not paying!!!!

I am appauled by Danielle & continue to be so every episode. As a parent I get being proud of your kids… what I don’t get is when they do something you are proud of claiming the credit for it. So you have a daughter who models & a daughter who likes to write songs (I think the song Jillian sang was sweet for her age but I am not ready to call her talented yet, I am a bitch, I know 😉 ) but Danielle likes to turn that around to reflect on herself. Good parents don’t claim responsibility for all their child’s achievements. (BTW MY son is a straight A student & a great baseball player, I expect cards in the mail congratulating ME for his/my accomplishments. TY!!) I am sure their are fairly remarkable, successful people out there who had less than stellar parenting (Bethenny comes to mind) so Danielle needs to stop patting herself so quickly…. besides these girls aren’t out of their teens yet so who is to say they will end up all that terrific.

Former castmember Dina Manzo, who produces the play, will be making a special introduction before each of the four perfomances, and says:

We actually think this is pretty cool! And if they suck, it will probably still be the kind of bad that you have to see for yourself – AKA just like every episode of their reality show! And we’re glad to see that Danielle Staub will not be terrorizing gracing the stage with her sociopathic presence!
Another appalling party, this one for the christening. T-man wants to show off, such a glitzy party! Declaring bankruptcy didn’t make them even attempt to show that they need to economize. Why? Because in my opinion, they declared bankruptcy as a way to get out of paying their creditors, and it was the perfect way to get away with their scheme. It won’t matter if the properties are foreclosed on since they leveraged the $ out…in my opinion, not saying this is fact.
They bought apartment buildings in East Orange, in slum areas. In other cases (don’t want to be accused of starting rumors here) the owners “fix them up”, so that they can inflate the appraisal values, then take out even more mortgage money. The rent is being paid by the government – wait that’s taxpayer’s money! – directly to the landlord.
Boston, I saw a number of LLC’s on the bankruptcy documents. The properties would be held in those names, as “First Ave. LLC” . If someone wants to go to the courthouse in the county where East Orange is, they would be able to look up each property (by address), see how many mortgages are on the property, how many liens have been filed on the properties, and even if the property taxes are being paid. Another thing to check would be the foreclosure list for that county, then look by address of the property. That can be done online; check by the county, then look for the list under “sheriff sale.” This is how someone can grift $11 million, and it is so criminal!
The reason T-man is saying that her Mcmansion is not in foreclosure is that if they are successful in filing chapter 7 their principle residence will be exempt. Remember, the “family” is helping so it is still possible that they will be able to keep the house. And uh, they “added on” to the existing house, so they just might win this one.

Joe uses the name, “Guiseppe”, sometimes, and sometimes, they reverse Giudice, Guidice. The Morris County records had proerties in Teresa’s name also.(Gorga)
